The Wager

It had been a few days since that night. Nothing especially interesting had happened concerning the topic either. Wraith continued on as he always had; indifferent in every manner possible. Occasionally, Weiss would wish that he would give her some sort of sign, anything really, to acknowledge that they had shared that evening. But she would quickly shake the thought from her head, immediately wondering why the thought had ever occurred to her in the first place.

In any case, she had more important things to think about. Such as who she would go to the upcoming dance with. Some would think it trivial at best, but to someone from Atlas' high society like her, it meant everything. Going to a dance with someone was something that she couldn't just go around squandering. It was an opportunity to meet people or get to better know someone.

She pondered the idea as she headed to the training room, where Yang had insisted their team visit after their last class of the day; history with Professor Oobleck.

As they arrived, Weiss immediately noticed the better part of Team WRPP lazily treading around the room. Primal was sitting at the far wall, surveying the room quietly, his four orange eyes whirring, narrowing and widening at common intervals. Paladin sat next to him, staring at his palm, his brow furrowed in concentration. Something seemed to be spinning madly in his hand, twirling at speeds that seemed almost impossible.

Wraith was busy with a punching bag, taking out his noticeable penned up aggression from earlier in the day. His shirt hung on the railing that sat next to the bag, boxing tape covering his hands as his fists flew back and forth, low grunts and growls escaping him after each blow. Sweat coated his back and his muscles rippled as he took each quick gulp of air.

After a couple more seconds, he put his hands down and wiped his forehead, his hair matted to his skull. He turned around and noticed the team of girls behind him.

"Enjoying the view?" He asked, a devious smile creeping across his lips as he reached for his shirt.

"You know it." Yang winked at him and walked past. Weiss didn't understand why, but a spark of jealousy surged through her as the blonde girl walked by him.

"Whatever you say, Blondie." Wraith shrugged and slipped on his shirt, stretching out his arms as he did so. He then turned to the rest of them. "So what brings y'all here this fine afternoon?"

All three grils looked towards Yang, who smiled at them sheepishly. "I wanted something to punch."

Wraith laughed. "Got some anger to work through? I took you as the always happy type."

She shrugged and turned around, flipping her hair behind her and strolling to one of the practice rooms. "Don't want to have too much penned up stress for the dance!" She sung as she entered the room, shutting the door behind her.

The tall boy chuckled as she left. "Don't understand the whole idea of a goddamn dance. Worthless waste of time, if you ask me."

Ruby walked up to him and poked him in the arm. "But it could be fun." She smiled at him.

Wraith gave her a disinterested look as he turned away. "It's a ridiculous excuse for the bastards of 'high society' to flaunt their money and pretend that they're worth something for once in their lives."

Weiss frowned at his comment. She tilted her head, considering what he had said. "But it's a time to have fun. Aren't you all about having fun?"

Wraith narrowed his eyes at her. "Sorry to say, snowflake, but you wouldn't know 'fun' if it knocked you upside the head."

Her temper immediately flared up, and she put her hands on her hips. "Oh? Is that so? Well I, for one, quite enjoy dances. And two, I'm fun. Your definition of it just happens to be a little more chaotic than the norm."

Wraith glared at her for a second, before a smirk gripped at his face. "Is that so? Then how about a little bet. Hmm? Nothing too major. Just a duel. Me and you. If you win, I'll go to your stupid little dance."

Weiss glared back at him. "Fine."

Wraith then held up a finger. "But if I win... well, I'm sure I'll think of something."

Weiss' face immediately flushed at the devious look on his face, but she wasn't about to back down from a direct challenge.

"Whatever." She said and pulled Myrtenaster from her side, brandishing the rapier with ease.

Wraith took Blitz and Krieg from his pockets and considered them for a moment before tossing them to Ruby. "Scratch them and you won't live long enough to say 'I'm sorry'." He joked with a triumphant smile.

Ruby's eyes glowed at the chance to get a closer look at the knives, and she nodded her head vigorously, almost skipping over to where Primal was and plopping down beside him. Primal looked over at her briefly, noticing the big smile on her face before turning back to surveying the room quietly.

Weiss gave Wraith an odd look. "You're going to need those." She said, pointing to the weapons he had so nonchalantly cast aside.

"Says who?" She chuckled before hopping into the small ring used for practicing with other people.

Weiss jumped in after him and, using her semblance, spawned a ring of glyphs surrounding the area.

Wraith looked around, a little surprised, before looking back over at Weiss, his blood-red eyes boring into hers. "So that's your semblance. Had a little hunch."

Weiss humphed before raising her weapon, setting one foot back and staring straight ahead.

"If you trigger one of them, you lose."

Wraith nodded. "Whatever suits your fancy, snowflake." He grinned at the new pet name he had given her, then readied himself, setting his feet apart and raising his hands slightly.

Weiss dashed straight at him almost instantaneously, which the tall boy easily side-stepped. The heiress mentally smacked herself for missing such an easy strike, then waited for the counter attack.

But it never came. Wraith just turned around and got into a defensive stance again, waiting for another dash.

Weiss questioned the matter in her head for a moment before going again, inevitably  dashing right by him again. She knew this would happen, however, and swung around as she passed him, aiming to catch Wraith by surprise.

The boy caught the movement out of the corner of his eye and managed to duck underneath the high slash, then tapped her on the back with his palm, sending Weiss off balance and stumbling forward. Her knees buckled and she waited for her knees to make an impact on the floor to get a better advantage using height.

But what she didn't expect, was that Wraith would somehow gently manage to wrench Myrtenaster from her hand and pick her back up before she could hit the floor, then using the momentum to sweep her up and twirl her around in a pirouette. He ended the move by placing his hand on the small of her back and dipping her so that she faced him.

She yelped slightly in surprise and stared up at Wraith from that position, her eyes meeting his playful ones. She blushed madly, not sure exactly what was going on. He smirked at her as a strong force hit her back, sending her into a standing position again.

Weiss immediately looked behind her to see a large icicle sprouting from one of the glyphs, a pebble lying next to the activated symbol.

Wraith chuckled. "Well, guess I lost. Technically, I did trigger one." He grinned.

Weiss huffed, puffing out her cheeks. "You planned all of that."

The tattooed boy shrugged and laughed contentedly. "You'll never know." He mocked. "But regardless, I'll go to the dance. You've got my word. Not that that means too much, but you get the point." He hopped out of the ring and headed for the exit. "We'll talk plans and such later snowflake."

Weiss' face burned red again as she watched him go. "What do you mean 'plans'?" She asked skeptically.

Wraith turned around, but kept walking towards the exit. "What do you mean. Me and you. We're going to the dance. Together."
