I heard something behind me.....a swift sound, probably a cat 'cause no one else could possibly find me here. Ya right, like your luck is that great Kate. I turned, thinking about ghosts and bats and monkeys. A disgusted shiver speeded through me. Erghh..creepy creatures. And then Suddenly, "AHHH!!" I screamed deafeningly sharp, "You monster! Go away! Shoo! Bad doggie! Go go go...just go!". I almost escaped a leg bite. "Phew! Thank god it left!" You see, I'm quite afraid of dogs and plus that one was a rotten stray, which means cherry on the cake. But I have to admit, that was the bravest I've been till the date. Relieved, I turned back and just then, again,a long shrill escaped my now parched lips. Jeez, I mustn't have had water for months.
"Kaitlin Amilia Hughes! ", she sounded angrier than me when I don't get my ice-cream when others do. (That means angry at level infinity 'cause I just loooove my ice-cream)."Calm down and for God's sake, how many times should I tell you not to pee in the bushes! And am I looking that dreadful to you young lady!" Oh belive me or not but at this moment when she's towering me in her full make up, she's more than dreadful.
"Eyes on me Kaitlin, not your muddy sneakers"
Shr paused for a second as I slight tilted my neck upwards.
"That's right. Now where was I...yes. You should really reconsider your habits. Going about screaming in people's faces, doesn't look nice."
"Mom!" I was off course very embarrassed, especially because she brought up my full name. Like seriously, couldn't she think of a better middle name than Amilia? "I wasn't peeing", I shot back. "And sorry for nothing. It's your fault you decided to show up right when I turned. Not just me, anyone would freak out."
"OK. I'm sorry for disturbing your nothingness. Now hop along. Why aren't you enjoying this wonderful party?"
Wow. Her mood swings are so swift that it forced me forgive her for unnecessarily scolding me. That's some talent she's got there.
"Wonderful! Are you kidding me mom! That place is like a dumbster. I think you guys messed up the invitations and invited a bunch of lunatic clowns instead of normal people"
"Well, clowns are people after all, deep down inside." She chuckled a bit at her sarcasm what I for one felt was lame.
Seeing my reaction, she stopped and continued, "Not everyone is little miss perfect at dancing you know."
"Ok mom. First of all, work on your humour 'cause that's just pathetic. Second, you were having fun right? Go and enjoy. You know I like being alone and anyways I'm more of a peace fan than a noise pollution one."
"As you wish Kate."
And with that, my lovely mother stormed off. Now come to think of it, I shouldn't have acted so harsh. But when would she ever understand? Why always me? And I haven't really got the point of this party. Are these people even related to uncle Rummi or are they here only for the free supper? But all the faces seem familiar and are well-dressed too. They ought to be his friends.
Anyways, I shouldn't be over thinking. At least I know why I'm here....he's an awesome uncle and that's the only reason there has to be behind my presence. Although, I guess he can be too overbearing at times.
Why does he need to arrange so many parties and show off his wealth?
Ah well.....rich people and their habits.
