Perfect Strangers

Chapter Five

"Hey isn't your first doctors appointment today?" Grace pops her head into my room.

"Yep I'm excited." I say closing my laptop from watching cute videos of woman telling the men they loved that they were pregnant with their babies and getting up to start getting ready.

"Do you need me to take you?"

"Nope Rick is taking me."

"You guys are getting pretty serious really fast aren't you?"

"Yeah it's scary."

"So when are you going to tell him?"

"I don't know, I don't want to loose him." I shrug sadly.

"He's already accepted you and the baby. I don't know why he would leave now."

"Yeah I guess but it just doesn't feel right to tell him yet."

"Well did you invite him to the doctors appointment? Maybe he'll get the hint. Cause you know the doctor gives you an estimate on when you conceived right?"

"He volunteered. And I didn't think about that. Shit, I can't lie to him."

There's a knock on our apartment door and I jump.

"Just call me if you need me okay. I'll be right by my phone." Grace says and disappears into her room.

I go to open the door.
Rick embraces me in a hug right when the door opens and I instantly forget about what me and grace were talking about minutes before.

"Hey beautiful, you ready?"

"Yes!" I say excitedly.

"Cool let's go."

At the doctors office...

"Im so nervous my hand are sweating and I don't even know why." I smile up at Rick as I hold his hand while the doctor checks me out.

"How are things going? Are there any concerns?" The doctor asks.

"Nope it's all good here."

"Yes that is right. Everything looks great.Your due date should be around March 20th. And it looks like you conceived on May 30th. "

Shit. I glance at Rick as he gets stiff and drops my hand.

"I will see you at your next appointment Blake and sorry i didn't get your name sir." The doctor extends his hand towards Rick.

Rick just stares forward and says emotionless.
"Richard Stevens."

Then it's my turn to get stiff.

"Congratulations and i'll see you two at the next appointment."

"Thank you Doctor" I almost whisper.

Once the doctor leaves the room becomes completely silent.I look up at Rick and he's still standing there staring at the wall. He blinks and then quickly leaves. Leaving me alone in the room.

I grab my purse and rush to catch up to him. He's moving pretty fast but i catch up to him in the parking lot.

"When were you going to tell me." He says and I can sense the anger in his voice.

I'm still trying to keep up as I answer."I don't know." I say out of breath.

"How could you not tell me?"

"I don't know. Rick please slow down."

"Were just going to let me look stupid?"

"I don't know!"
