“Awakening? But that’s impossible!” I said in disbelief staring straight at dad. “There’s just no way.”
“Caramell, honey, you really are awakening.” Mom said with a hand over her mouth. I couldn’t tell if she was happy or worried.
I was at a loss for words. Dad and mom started talking but I spaced out. After all these years, why now? I was so sure that I would never awaken. I was the failure of a mage who would never awaken. I had fully convinced myself of that. And now here I was. Awakening. Ugh this is all very confusing.
“Wow. Who knew you’d actually awaken.” Jake said continuing to eat his cereal.
“I had a feeling that eventually you would awaken. But having it happen now just caught me off guard” Danny said thinking out loud. “I wonder what set it off. Caramell?”
I heard Danny say my name. “yea?” I said being brought back to reality.
“Did anything strange happen recently with you and the crystal?”
“Hmm.” I said wondering. “Oh yea, during my first duel with Crystal it started glowing for some reason.”
Danny looked into my eyes curiously. I froze a bit. “W-What?” I stammered.
“I think you’re eyes the crystal and the duel are tied together somehow. It’s just a hunch.” Said Danny.
“Caramell” Dad began, “We have to send Jean to school with you.”
“BUT DAD!” I began as he held out a finger.
“I know honey, but we have to have you guarded at all times now. We really have no choice. Its all -”
“I’m NOT letting Jean go to school with me to guard me!!!” I voiced.
“But Cara-”
“I’m going to school!” I said firmly going out the dinning room. I was angry. I grabbed my bag wore my shoes and went out the door to my car. I didn’t want to hear any of it. It was all a bit shocking and it was slowly wearing me out. I just wanted to get away from all of it and to be a normal girl. As I was pulling out the driveway I heard someone yell out “HEY CARAMELL! Wait for me!”
I looked to see Jake. I stopped the car and let Jake who was approaching the car get in. “Jeez, you almost left without me!” I sped off without saying a word.
I tried hard to pay attention in class to do but my mind kept drifting off. Everyone in school stayed clear of me that day. It was eventually lunch time. I was the first one at the table. I sat down and put my lunch on the table. I stared at my lunch and decided I wasn’t hungry. I put it back in my bag. Sharon came and sat down in front of me.
“Whoah. Someone’s in a super depressed mood.” She said looking at me. “What’s up?” She asked.
I sighed, “Nothing it just feels like my life is being controlled by some devil that just wants to torture me to no end.” I said.
Sharon chuckled, “I know what you mean. I’m sure everyone who has to go to school feels the same way.”
I put on a small smile. Then Sharon frowned and looked at me seriously. “What?” I said.
She put a hand on my forehead with a worried face. “Omg, girl! You’re burning up! You should really go home and get some rest!”
“Ugh. I don’t want to go home.” I said whining. Home is the last place I want to be right now. I don’t want to have to hear whatever else dad and mom had decided.
Sharon huffed.“At least go to the nurse’s office and get some rest?” she pleaded. I was about to say that I was fine.
“For me?” she said with a puppy face.
