I woke up to my alarm blaring in my ear, I sat up and checked the time, I sighed in relief it was only five minutes after four, I was scared that I have slept in. I bolted out of bed and quickly put myself together, I was out the door by four fifteen, I was running down the street eating oatmeal out if a coffee cup, something I had picked up when I was in middle school and had been running especially late, I burst through the skating rink doors just five minutes before four thirty. I found Viktor and Yuri already on the ice. I threw my bag down on the bench. "Y/n!" Viktor called my name. I looked at him and our eyes locked. I swallowed hard, I hadn't been able to hold his gaze but I was going to start, Viktor was like an enigma, and he was a puzzle I desperately wanted to solve. "Hurry up, get your skates on, I wanted to show you something. I nodded my head and began to lace up my skates like he had said.
I skated over to him, "I want you to listen to this, and it's the song I've picked for your program." Viktor pressed play and the music started. I listened, the music rose and fell very obviously telling a story of some type, it sounds something of strife like the story was about someone's struggle. When the song finally came to an end it ended peacefully signaling that the strife and struggle was over and there was a happy ending. When the music finally stopped I found myself staring at Viktor. "What's it called?" I asked "It's called certamin amoris" he said. I thought, pondering the title, what did it mean? "it tells the story about a woman who is torn between two men who she loves very much, she finds that she can't choose either one, it tells the story of her inner struggle to choose, she decides to tell them both at the same time about how she feels and they accept her love and admit that they both love her as well the story ends with the two men deciding that they love her so much that they are willing to share her." Viktor really did have a talent for picking songs. This was something I felt that I could skate to and give a good performance, I feel like this is something I can truly relate to and do well with maybe not the whole having to choose between two guys thing but I know the pain of an internal struggle. "What do you think?" Viktor asked snapping me out of my reprieve. "I think it's perfect." Viktor smiled and gave a slight nod "good, I'm glad you like it, I've begun to figure out some the choreography but not all of it, and I'll have that finished for you tomorrow." Viktor said as I nodded my head "ok, thank you" I didn't know what else to say, I still hadn't gotten used to being around Viktor, and I had just barely gotten comfortable with Yuri.
We continued with practice until about eleven thirty, much later than I usual. On my way out of the rink I was stopped by Yuri running after me, holding up his arm and calling my name. I turned around to face him just before he reached me. "Hey if you want I can come with you right now to help you work out a song for your free skate."
"Sure that would be great" I said. Yuri and I left the rink together side by side. I glanced at Yuri out of the corner of my eye. There was a light blush that spread across his face and over the bridge of his nose. I assumed it was from the cold weather. Yuri caught me looking at him. The light pink that already colored his nose intensified. "What? Is there something on my face?" he said, as he wiped his hands over his cheeks. I laughed, little white puffs escaping into the air around us, no "I just wanted to thank you, you don't know how much this means to me." I said as I shoved my hands in my pockets and looked up at the falling snow flakes. The small white crystals dusted my hair and eyelashes. I could feel Yuri's eyes on me and I turned my gaze to him. I offered him a warm smile and he returned it.
We reached my house and I opened the door. I kicked off the snow from my boots and walked in. Yuri followed behind me, closing the door. I toed of my boots and placed them by the door, I watched as Yuri did the same. I took his coat and hung it on a hook in the corner. "Here follow me, my room is this way." I said leading him down the hallway.
Yuri looked around my room, there wasn't much, a few boxes of stuff I had yet to unpack were pushed up against the wall. As far as furniture went there was just my bed, dresser, and desk. My computer sat on my desk along with a few pictures and my closet held a few articles of clothing. "It isn't much, there's still a bit left to unpack but, this is my room." I said reaching to flip the light switch. I overhead light flicked on, illuminating the room in a soft amber glow. "Here you can sit there," I said gesturing to my desk chair. "I'll go grab another one, hold on." I said leaving the room. I padded down the hall, my socks allowing me to travel in silence. I began to pick up one of the chairs when my mom entered the room. "Oh, hello honey!" she greeted my cheerfully. "Hey mom, Yuri is here, hope you don't mind." She smiled brightly, "no, I don't what are you doing?" She asked "he's helping me work out a song for my free skate."
"Oh that's wonderful I'm so glad you two are getting comfortable with each other." I blushed as I continued to drag the chair back to my room.
I entered my room where Yuri was waiting for me. He turned to look at me when I opened the door. I set the chair down next to the one Yuri was using. "Ok so about the song for your free skate, is there anything particular you want it to be about?" he asked. I thought for a while about his question, "Well I want it to tell the story about my life and career as a skater." Yuri smiled "ok, well I've heard you talk about skating but what about everything else in your life? I want to hear about that too," I felt my face heat up, and I hoped Yuri wouldn't notice. I pushed a strand of hair behind my ear, and cleared my throat nervously. "well, I've always loved skating, I had asked for my first pair of skates for Christmas when I was about six or seven, but I never got the chance to use them, my parents never got around to taking me, I was in gymnastics and dance but quit both of those sports, I always loved to watch the ice skating events and of course you and Viktor were my favorites, I really started getting into skating when I was fourteen, I made the decision that I wanted to do it professionally when I was fifteen, but everyone kept telling me that I shouldn't do it, or that I couldn't do it, that I should just make it a hobby. No one believed in me." I finished, finding myself staring at the floor. Hastily I looked up to see Yuri was staring at me. The heat returned to my face, why did being around Yuri cause me to blush so much? "That's, I- you're," Yuri stuttered. He let out a breathy chuckle. "Sorry it's just, very inspiring, your story. Despite everyone telling you that you couldn't do it, you did, you are." The blush didn't leave my face when I smiled sheepishly. Yuri's face lit up as he whirled on the computer. He began typing away at the keys, "what? What is it you have an idea?" I asked as I watched him. He nodded his head excited, as he continued what he was doing.
