We looked at our Sensei who was leaning against the railing of the roof. "So, tell me about yourselves."
"Like what, Sensei?" Sakura asked.
"Your likes, dislikes, goals, dreams...stuff like that."
"You go first!" Naruto demanded. We all looked expectantly at him.
"Ah, me? Well, I'm Hatake Kakashi, there are things that I like, and there are also things I don't. Um, my goals, I've never really thought of any. Dreams, same thing. There, done."
Naruto and Sakura looked taken back at him. "All he gave us was his name," Sakura grumbled to me. I patted her back to calm her down.
"Okay then. You in the orange," Kakashi said, pointing to Naruto. Naruto introduced himself, then talked about ramen, his dislike of waiting, and his goal of becoming Hokage. "And the girl in pink."
"I like...I mean, love..." I sighed and rested my face in my knees. I love Sakura and all, but this was getting ridiculous. "My goal is..." she kept glancing at Sasuke. "My dream is..."
"And your dislikes?"
"Naruto!" I kind of expected that. Must be because Naruto is always against Sasuke.
"And the girl in black?" Kakashi Sensei prompt.
"I'm Hirano, and I love performing and my friends from the Academy, but I hate it when my rival always does better than me. My goal is to beat Maddie, and my dream is pretty much to beat Maddie."
"And the last boy?"
"I have a few likes and many dislikes. My goal is to kill a certain man...my dream would be to revive my clan."
Ooooooo, dark, I mused, glancing at the boy. I don't think he's the type to find a romantic interest to revive his clan...I think he wishes to bring his dead family back to life by another method. Probably through a forbidden process.
"Okay!" We all looked at our Sensei who clapped his hands together. "Tomorrow, we're going to do our first mission, so skip breakfast and get up bright and early! Bye!"
"'Mission'?" I echoed. "Like an actual mission?"
"Then why would he tell us to skip breakfast?" Sakura reasoned, linking arms with me as we left the place. "Breakfast gives us energy throughout the day!"
"Let's go find the others," I suggested. Sakura shook her head.
"I can't. Mother is waiting for me at home and it's almost dinner time."
"Oh, then I'll see you tomorrow then," I said. We waved goodbye to each other and went our separate ways. I ate dinner, stretched, worked on my turns, and went to bed early.
The next day, I skipped breakfast and went straight to the training grounds. Sasuke was already there, but the other two weren't.
"Morning," I greeted politely. He gave me a slight nod, and we remained silent for the next seven hours.
Seven long hours.
During those hours, Sakura and Naruto showed up, but we had to wait forever for Kakshi Sensei!
"Oh, hey guys," he said casually as if he hadn't been late for seven hours. "I was helping this old lady across the street, so I'm a bit late."
"A BIT? YOU'RE LATE BY SEVEN HOURS!" Naruto raged.
"Now, now he's our Sensei," Sakura said, trying to calm him down, but I could read her underlying anger beneath the surface.
"So, what mission are we doing?" I pipped up.
"Oh yeah," Kakashi Sensei said as if he had just remembered something. "You guys will be performing a survival test."
While Naruto and Sakura protested, he pulled out three bells. "You have until lunchtime to get these bells from me. When lunchtime comes, whoever doesn't have a bell, doesn't get lunch and has to repeat the Academy."
But there are only three bells, I thought, confused.
"Remember, come to me like you have the intent to kill," Kakashi said, tying the bells to his pocket. "Ready...go!"
I instantly dashed away into the forest along with the other three? No, Naruto is back there. What's he doing back there!?
After sometime, I found myself facing Kakashi Sensei, my plan to get a bell still unformed and incomplete. My main goal right now was to run away from Sensei and hopefully not get caught, while I think of a plan, but that's not possible right now.
"And you're the last one," He said, in a bored tone.
"Uh..."I tensed up and ran away from him. As I was trying to get away from Kakashi Sensei, I spotted Sakura lying on the ground.
"Sakura!" I ran over to her, seizing her arm. "Wake up!" I screamed, dragging Sakura along. I didn't last too long because Sensei appeared in front of me, causing me to skid and run to the left.
However, Sensei didn't chase me. I didn't see or hear him running after me, so I slowed down to a walk and examined Sakura. Genjutsu! "Release!" I hissed, causing her to wake up.
"Hirano?"
"Hey, are you okay?" I asked worriedly. Sakura got to her feet unsteadily, so I grabbed her shoulder and let her lean on me.
"Yeah, what happened?" She asked.
"Kakashi Sensei is what happened," I sighed, just as the bell rang. "And we failed."
Sakura and I walked back to the wooden posts and spotted Naruto all tied up and Sasuke sulking on the ground next to him. "Have a seat, girls," Sensei said to us. We obeyed, and he turned to all of us, examining us critically.
"Okay, there's no need for you to return to the Academy," he began, surprising us all.
"Huh?"
"That's right," he said, his voice turning dark. "You should all just quit being ninjas." I felt my heart drop to my stomach.
"WHAT?!"
Kakashi glared us. "What do you think this exercise is all about? It's teamwork. When you're assigned missions, the Hokage usually puts everyone on a team in order to have a higher success rate. If you don't work together, how do you think you'll function?"
We were all silent for a moment. "First, Naruto, you weren't even thinking at all. You went straight into danger. Sakura, all you cared about was Sasuke, but not once did you think of Naruto or even Hirano. Sasuke, you thought the others as a burden, and took me on without any help. But you still failed. And Hirano, all you did was run away. While I'll commend you for helping Sakura when she fainted, you need to learn to fight back with whatever you've got."
I looked down at the ground, sighing. "So now, I'm going to give you guys another chance. Right after lunch, You four will try to get the bells from me, but don't feed Naruto. Got it?"
