Chapter 6- 'Sadie's secret'

Okay, you've got to bear in mind, I had little more than 3 seconds to decide what I wanted to do, therefore, you can't really blame me for slamming the door shut in her face.

I'm sorry!

She scared me, don't judge.

Anyway, I heard a gasp and I suddenly realised how rude I had just been. I felt awful.

"H-hello? A-a-ariana?" I heard Sadie stutter softly. Her voice sounded raw and she must've been crying for a while.

I opened the door slowly, and smiled awkwardly at her.

"Hey! Um. Yeah, sorry about that, I, er. I have this twitch. In my arm. You know?"

She raised an eyebrow but suprisingly, she didn't question it. She just looked at me and sniffed.

"Um, hey," she smiled weakly and did an awkward little wave. The smile didn't reach her eyes and I was really confused.

Why was she outside my house looking like she'd just been dragged through bush backwards? We weren't great friends, and she was one of the most popular people in the school, so why had she come to me in the middle of what seemed like a crisis?

It didn't add up.

It was then that I realised I had just been stood there staring at her. I blushed and looked away and then back again.

"Erm, hi! Do you, um, do you wanna come in?" I asked, motioning inside the house behind me with my arm.

"Yes please, if you don't mind."

I moved aside as she bustled in.

"Here, I'll take your coat," I said softly.

As much as I don't really like her, she seemed genuinely upset, a.d it would be horrible of me to make whatever it was worse.

She studied me for a second, as if to determine whether I was joking or not. I pulled her coat off of her arms and placed it on the peg.

"Thanks," she said quietly.

We went into the living room and sat down on the sofa, the TV was on the music channel and I was glad for it because it detracted from the awkwardness in the room. You could feel the tension like a dark cloud hovering over the room, and the majority of it was coming from her. I still had no clue why.

"So, do you-" I started at the same time as Sadie went,

"You're probably-"

"Ah, don't worry, you go," I said hurriedly, as I was only gonna ask if she wanted a drink or something.

"Um, ok. I- uh. You're probably wondering why I'm here?" she stuttered carefully.

"Well, yeah I guess,"

"I'm here because I'm desperate. I know you don't like me that much, and I know that we're not the best of friends, but you have to understand that I have no one else to go too, you're literally my only hope, and I just really need to speak to someone,"

Her eyes were glassy and she seemed not far off of tears. I shifted slightly closer and raised ny hand to pat her back to comfort her, and she flinched away.

Did I mention that I was thoroughly confused? Because I was. I reached for the TV remote and discretly muted the TV.

"Hey, it's okay, I know we're not particularly close, but if you need to get something off your chest, go for it. I swear on my life I will keep it to myself," I started carefully, treading on eggshells, as the saying goes.
