Chapter 3
Turns out, it could. As soon as I got back to our dorm, I settled down on my bed with a good book, but Olive and Lissa burst it, getting hot and heavy. I groaned and got out of there, quick.
I kicked a pebble as I walked away from our dorm. Maybe I should just switch dorms. I don't think they really want me there anyway.
I looked up and noticed some girl with deep red hair and brown eyes standing near some man with black hair. She kept staring at me with this look. I couldn't tell what it was exactly, but I didn't like it.
"Hey, what's wrong?" The voice sounded distinctly southern. I was the redhead. I looked around to see if she was talking to someone else, but I was the only one around. She laughed.
"Yes, I'm talking to you," she said. "What's your name?"
"Um, Savannah," I said.
"Well," she drawled. "I'm Sarafina. But you can call me Sare."
I nodded and looked at the floor. "What's the matter?" she asked. I looked up at the sky.
"Oh, nothing really," I said. "It's just I'm on the guys' basketball team and I froze today. They hurt me. And even if I want to curl up on my bed, my roommates always want to go at it." I sighed.
She looked at me weirdly. "You've got the dykes as roomies?" she asked rudely.
I looked at her with narrowed eyes. "Hey," I said. "Don't talk about them like that. They're my friends." She put her hands up.
"Sorry, sorry," she said. "But don't you find that annoying?" I nodded, pulling on my ponytail.
"Why don't you ask to get your dorm changed?" she asked. I looked down at her.
"I couldn't do that to them," I said. "They like me. They actually want me there."
Sarafina looked away for a moment, then looked back to me. "Hey, do you wanna go to a party with me and a couple friends tomorrow?" she asked.
I looked ahead on the trail. "I have practice tomorrow," I said. "Ends at six."
She clapped. "Great! Be ready by eight." I looked at her skeptically.
"Why would I need to have two hours to get ready?" I asked.
She laughed. then looked down at my outfit and grimaced. \
"I have a thing or two to tell you about fashion," she said. "Men don't like baggy clothes. They like tight and stretchy." I looked down at my shorts and tee ensemble.
"What's wrong with this?" I asked. She giggled.
"That's what a tomboy would wear!" she said. "You need- hey. Are you doing anything right now?" I shook my head. "Great! Let's go get you a dress to wear!"
{~~}
"Get this one!" Sarafina was holding up something that looked like long piece of underwear.
"As what?" I twisted my face in disgust. "Underwear?"
She laughed and threw the dress back on the pile she had on her arm. "No," she said. "It's a dress, duh."
She pushed me to the dressing room with a few dresses. I looked at all of them, before picking the one that was the longest. It was a strapless shimmery green. I slipped out of my practice clothes and shimmied into the tight dress. I looked at the mirror and smiled. I actually looked.. hot.
