Chapter 9

After practice, I went to my dorm to do a little homework. It was boring, but it needed it be done. After a few hours of that, Mariana came over and told me it was time to go shopping. I sighed, slammed my books closed, and walked to her car.

She drove us to the mall, playing her My Chemical Romance CD the whole way. MCR isn't my absolute favorite, but I like them anyway. As soon as we got there, we went to the more dressy stores, almost like for brides. I knew I couldn't get a really expensive one, but I wanted it to be pretty.

We looked around for a couple minutes, and by then I saw some I liked already. "See anything?" I asked Mariana. She held up a few dresses. I held my stack up.

"Let's go try them on," she said. We walked over to a worker and asked for a dressing room.

"I tell you which one looks best on you," she said, giving us a smile. She was about our age, I think.

Mariana went in first. She came out with a strapless number, with ruffles for a skirt and a tight little top. It was pretty, but it wasn't her. I shook my head, and looked over to the girl, whose name tag said 'Jenny :)', and she was shaking her head, too.

Mariana gave me a look and walked back in the dressing room. It was a bit awkward with the girl here, but I just looked around, pretending to be busy with something so I wouldn't have to talk to her. Mariana came back out with a pinkish gown next. It had spaghetti straps, and had little balls all over it, holding up a tiny bit of fabric all over the dress. It was pretty also, but I just couldn't imagine her wearing it anywhere.

I shook my head again, but Jenny was thoughtful. Mariana went back in the dressing room, and was quicker to come out this time. The next one was absolutely gorgeous. It was bright blue, and strapless. It had a black strip under the chest, and had cheetah looking print under it. It had a thin, see-through piece of fabric over the cheetah print. I started nodding enthusiastically. It was so perfect for her! It was so pretty!

"Yes, yes, yes!" I heard from Jenny.

Mariana smiled. "This one it is, then," she said. She gave the others to Jenny to put back, and she held them on her lap. They both looked at me, and I got up to try mine on.

The first one was yellow. It had those thin sleeves, that were like a film that cascaded down my arms. The dress was simple enough: fitted around my chest, and dragged on the floor a little. Mariana gave a good shake, and Jenny did the same. I felt a little disappointed; I really liked this dress. I went back in the dressing room to try another one on.

This one was white. It had a heart shaped neckline, and hugged my form all the way down. The bottom half of the skirt had crooked ruffles. In my opinion, it would look better with heels. Mariana looked thoughtful, then shook her head a little. Jenny didn't do anything at first, then shook her head. I walked back into the dressing room with a sigh.

The last one I had picked out was bright purple. It was strapless, and the bottom touched the floor. The top went to mid-waist, and had a crisscross pattern with little white strips. There was a carnation looking flower on my hip. The skirt part just went down straight, with many layers of filmy purple material.

Mariana and Jenny started nodding. I smiled at them. I went back in the dressing room, changed, and came back out. I gave the other dresses to Jenny, and we went over to the cash register, squealing the whole way. I was surprised to see both our dresses only came to about three hundred dollars. We each paid half. We said thanks and bye to Jenny, and we walked to our next destination: a hat store.
