Chapter 9
I woke up early the next morning. I grabbed my ipod and played Bakery Story for a half an hour before finally getting up all the way. I took a shower, shaved my legs, and brushed my teeth. I sat on my bed until nine o'colck, then got up to take a shower. All my classes are in a line today, meaning I'm going to have most of the day to myself, meaning Mariana and I can go shopping.
After all my classes, I walked to the theater and waited for everyone to get here. I sat in the front and drank a few gulps from my water bottle and watched Miss Jen as she walked to the middle of the stage.
"Okay!" she said once we were all sitting. The drama queens were sitting next to me for some reason. "Who wants to go first?"
As expected, the drama queens raised their hands first. "Julia and Kimmie, you can go first," she said, walking towards the piano. They stood up and ran to the stage climbling up it instead of using the stairs.
"We're going to be singing 'Angel of Music'," Julia said. "You know, the one with two girls?" Kimmie finished. Miss Jen started the piano and they took out the words.
They weren't exactly horrible, but they weren't Christine worthy. Once they finished, all the boys went, either singing 'Past the Point of No Return', but only the man's part, or 'Music of the Night'. Almost everyone went, and Miss Jen couldn't believe it. She thought it would've taken at least three classes, but it looks like it's only going to take one.
When it was just me and one of the hot guys, Miss Jen called us up, winking at me. "You're going to sing 'Think of Me'," she told him.
He picked up a script, but I bypassed it. I was shaking slightly, really nervous. I looked out at the sea of people and almost fell over. Why does it look like theres more than only our class here?
Miss Jen started to play the piano, but I was too engrossed with my nervousness, so I missed my cue. She started it over, and I hit it right this time.
"Think of me, think of me fondly, when we've said goodbye. Remember me once in a while, promise me you'll try."
I looked out at the faces as I sang and all the nervousness faded. I can do this. I'm a good singer, no matter what anyone says. I sang my heart out, or at least that's what I thought. I sang the high me great in my opinion, and then it was the hot guys' turn to sing. Once I had caught my breath, I realized that the hot guy was actually a good singer.
I started again and looked over to Miss Jen. She looked amazed.
"But please promise me that sometimes you will think, ah ah ah ah ah ah ahhh, ah ah ah ah ah ah ahhh, oh ah oh ah oh ah oh ah oh ah ohhh, ahh ohhh, ohh ahh-oof me!"
After that, I looked down at the crowd who was giving me a standing ovation. Me. A standing ovation. Can you believe it?
Miss Jen stood up with a big smile. "Looks like we found our Christine!"

After that, it was time for practice. I walked over to the gym with a big smile on my face. I pushed open the doors and spotted Wes waiting for me by the place I always set my water bottle down. I walked over to him, set it down, and gave him a huge smile.
He put his hands out. "Do I want to know?" he asked, taking a half step back.
I nodded. "Hi, I'm Christine Daae," I said happily.
He smiled. "That's great, Savannah," he said. "I didn't think you could actually sing."
I didn't say anything. That actually hurt. What, just because I'm good at basketball means I'm not good at anything else?
Wes glanced back at me and he seemed to know what my problem was. "No, no," he said quickly. "I didn't mean it like that."
I nodded, took a quick swig of my water bottle, and went to go stand in line. He came behind me as we did warm ups.
When it came time to scrimmage, I sat down on the bench and waited. I watched as Wes went down, sank a three, blocked Isaac's shot, tripped Chris up, and dunked in front of Brayden's face. I sighed, just watching at how good he is. I wish I could be that good.
"Abe, Kyle, Tom, Ron, and Savannah," Coach said.
I stood up, stretched my back, and walked over to him.
"Abe, you're point. Kyle, power forward. Tom, weak forward. Ron, center. Savannah, shooting guard," he said. "Go in for Joe's team."
Which means we're going to be playing Trevor and Jackson. Great.
I stepped into place, near the elbow, and watched as Tom passed the ball into Abe. No one was really paying attention to me as he dribbled down the ball, so I crept up behind Trevor and stuck my head from behind his back and waved at Ron, who had the ball at this point. I made sure he saw me, but he didn't pass it to me.
I ran down the court as Kyle got blocked and took my place again, at the elbow. Everyone thought I was the vulnerable one, so they all came at me. When they discovered that wasn't working, they just did their normal thing.
On offense, I would always be open, but no one would pass it to me. Everyone got shots, except me. I haven't got the ball yet. On defense, I knew Wes was going to throw the ball to Sam, so I jumped the pass. Once the ball was in my hands, I dribbled down the court as fast as I could and made a quick layup.
I turned back around and everyone was just staring at me. They hadn't even moved! Even the people on my team!
"Ah, go get a drink," Coach said. I walked over to the bench with a triumphant smile on my face.
