Road To Freedom Or Path To Loss

It had been a week we had been planning and training and preparing for our mission or should I say missions with steves help and memory a map was made showing the hydra outposts but still thy were unaware of where the main base could be. there were many hydra bases and it was our job to wipe them of the maps. We all stood in the court yard of the camp we had been moved to in order to prepare everyone was saying there good byes I for once did not need to I had all a cared about on this mission with me. I was in uniform which bucky found very sexy I always said howie had a mind of the future no women dared dress like this. I had my hair in a sideward French plat in it hid a small sharp pin handy for cutting through rope if need be and pick locking doors, in my boots howie had designed in the heel at the bottom the flat part pulls out of the heel creating a knife it's like that for them both I hid a knife in the valley of my bra at the front, 2 guns strapped to my thighs and a machine gun which I carried on a handle over my shoulder. I have to say I looked crazy but what the hell. Bucky walked over to me from his talk with Steve "hey warrior princess"he playfully commented on the weapons I possessed "shut up watch when we get in to a situation which will require my expert skills at hiding sharpe pointy objects in places"I laughed he just smiled "we getting ready to move out are you sure you wanna do this"he asked worried about me yet again "of course I want to we should be done within the next few months and if we stick to the plan we should be back just in time to get married its all planned out bucky"I smile "things never really go that way"he sighed sadly"well to the hell with it. It don't matter but either way after these missions we will be getting married"I smile and wrap my arms around his neck "yes and you will be mrs gracie barnes"he pecks my lips "I like the sound of that"I smile and kiss him deeper this time we break apart when Steve yells move out. Here we go road to freedom.

first base we got to we hit swiftly and fast it was in you guessed it a warehouse it had boxes full of what I guessed to be the samples I took from the last hydra base. myself along with bucky Steve and the other men marched in killed all workers and set a bomb to destroy all the supplies they had there.

next base we hit at the dead of night we set the bomb and got out just in time as it lit up like the Fourth of July that's 2 bases down we took it all In a stride.

"They were not so bad"I said to my bestfriend and fiancé "yeah you did good for a girl"Steve laughed I knew he was joking about the girl remark so I playfully chased him when Steve got that serum it changed him emotionally to he jokes more I liked it. It was winter January 1945 time we sat in a make shift camp discussing the next few weeks of missions only a few left now.

A few days later we were walking though a snowy  foggy path in the woods guns at the ready Steve in lead I had a big coat to protect me from the cold at buckys orders it made it harder to move fast but I did ok Steve walked into a opening and out of no where threw his shield (which I have come to learn is his thing) at a hostile in the trees  all hell broke lose we all began to fire at the men and make our way towards a moving car when frenchie done some crazy roll under the car and planted a bomb on it causing it to explode. After we had destroyed that local base we headed east to our next one we had cameras following us at this point feeding to Chester and Peggy no doubts while Steve was explaining out next move I had to remind him to keep his little compass picture of Peggy out of camera view which let's just say he failed to do which is embarrassing stalker like in my opinion. As the weeks dragged on the team I had come to love had now started to call themselves the howling commando's we had all become close no man looked down on me because I was a women it felt nice to be able to rely on each other. There was 11 of us in the team Junior juniper or as I like to call him JJ, Jim Morita our communications handler, the Brit James Falsworth, Gabe Jones who throws one hell of a punch just ask JJ, Jacques Dernier or frenchie, Sam Sawyer aka Happy, Percival Pinkerton known as pinky and Timothy Dugan or as like to call him Dum Dum of course there was me bucky and Steve as well. We made me hell of a team.

A Few days later we hit the next base me and bucky on snipper duty looking out for other men. The next base we hit later in the same month was again at night we had a easy clean while going through a town a hydra tank showed let's just say Steve took it out with ease. We were coming into late April now
We had got news of Schmidts weapons developer the man who created the samples I stole dr Zola would be passing through some mountains on a train it was to be our last mission for a fortnight it had all gone to plan me and bucky would marry soon I would become mrs barnes. We laid awaiting In the snow on a close by cliff ready to zip wire across to the passing train when ever it would come "hey mrs barnes"Steve sat next to me I rolled my eyes looking towards the way the train was due to come "not yet soon though"is all I replied I sighed Steve gave me a worried look "what's wrong"he asked "I dunno I just have a bad feeling its most likely nothing....hey Steve I was wondering would um you I mean I know your gonna be the best man but would you give me away"I asked nervously "me"He asked confused and unsure of himself "no the iron giant yes you"I giggled "it would be a honour"he smiled we were brought out of our talk when one of the men said the doc would be on the train no doubt me bucky and Steve all stood near the edge I could tell bucky was nervous about the zip wire I laughed he thought this was steves payback  for this one time at a fair Bucky and I made him ride the cyclone and he was sick. The train came in to view we got prepared to zip across and land on fast train this would be fun "ok we only have a 10 second window miss that window we are bugs on a windshield" Steve announced well thank you very much Steve I thought in my head Steve zipped of "ladies first"I laughed to bucky who rolled his eyes and followed before I followed with one man behind me we all landed perfectly and ran across the roof  before me bucky and Steve climbed down a ladder into a train cabin leaving the remaining man as look out.

we walked slowly and quietly down the cabin guns ready me and bucky close by each other in front of Steve. Me and bucky had just gone through a door when it shut I turned and banged on it to Steve the I saw a man behind him I heard bucky let of his gun I pointed behind Steve which made him turn and shoot I helped bucky shooting at 2 men ducking behind the boxes there I got hit in the side it was more of a scrape but it hurt this made bucky shoot and run across to my side ducking next to me he looked me over"are you ok" he asked worry in his voice I lifted my hand from the hit in my side to show a little blood "just a scrape close call" I was out of bullets on my big gun so was bucky we resorted to my 2 hand guns and his one hand gun shooting but they to ran out we had nothing knifes and for those to work we needed to be up close lucky for us Steve came in and bucky Jammed his gun shooting the last guy "I had him on the ropes"bucky commented childishly to Steve this made me smile before a man unnoticed to us before let out a huge bolt and before Steves warning to get down could work we were pushed back hitting the floor an blowing a hole on the side of the train bucky was first up he used steves shield to shoot the guy but was blasted of the train I ran out and looked round the hole my heart beating so fast in fear my fiancé was dead tears streaming on my face so fast he was ok just hanging on Steve took out the guy as I climbed out on to the outside of the train towards bucky I would not let him die "bucky hold on"I yell to him "no Gracie it's to dangerous" he yelled back I ignored him and carried on I reached him  just as the pole he was hanging from started to break Steve was behind me as it snapped and bucky fell I jumped for bucky Steve grabbed my leg and I grabbed buckys hand trying to hold on "bucky"I was crying his hand slipped through mine and he began to fall screaming "NOOOOO" I yelled Steve had pulled me up I was a mess I was crying And screaming. Steve held me close to his chest tears on his face to I don't know why but I started hitting steves chest he did not flinch just let me get it all out"no no no Steve please he can't be gone make him come back Steve make him come back"I was not in the right mind Steve just held me I was destroyed my heart had been ripped out and stomped on. The pain in my side long forgotten as I sobbed into my best friend "we have to go back"I said my voice coming out small "it's gonna be okay"Steve stoked my hair as I whimpered my whole body felt as if it had been set on fire.
