I got a call in the middle of the night. “Abby…Toews has been in a car crash. A drunk driver hit him,” said Kane. “It’s really bad we are all going to the hospital.”
“I’ll be there in about ten minutes,” I said. We both hung up. I ran to my closet in the dark and got on skinny jeans and a normal t-shirt put my hair up in a messy bun. Took my drawstring bag with my stuff. I grabbed a monster energy drink and then got in my car and drove. I got there and almost everyone was there we all felt emotional as we looked at him be taken to the ER. He was almost life-less. I looked at him and almost started to cry. I’ve seen this all before and it didn’t go well. We all made ourselves at home in the waiting room I sat next to Kane in one of the double chairs. None of us said much till it was about 5:00 am and we were all called at 2:30 am. But that was after most of us slept. I didn’t notice I fell asleep on Kane’s shoulder (Shianne won’t mind).
We all went in to see Toews he was still unconscious at like 7:00 am. But then I asked for a minute with a nurse and everybody left. I was talking to the nurses about his condition. She said it wasn’t as bad as it seems. And explained that it could get worse or it could get better.
I went out and explained it to the guys. Then left to go get breakfast. And me a monster drink. I came back and handed out the donuts and we all ate. And waited to hear more news. We seemed like we lived in that hospital. Q called off practice because we don’t have game tonight.
It was noon by the time the doctor came out and told us he was conscious. We were all kids trying to get the new pair of skates at the closest store because we all raced in to see him. We all then walked in once we got to the door we walked in and I was first but that’s not the point.
He was so surprised to see us all there. “Hi,” he said.
“How do you feel?” asked Kane.
“Better. How long was I unconscious?” He asked.
“About 10 hours,” Shaw replied. We were all crammed in that room it seemed.
“Everyone who’s on the team is here,” I said
“Everyone. Ok so what happened that dramatically would bring you all here?” Toews asked.
“Well Toews. You were hit by a drunk driver at about 2:00 this morning and then were unconscious for about 10 hours. The doctor said you were in bad condition,” Sharp said.
“We came as fast as we could,” added Leddy.
“You had us so scared we didn’t think you’d ever play,” I paused then started to tear up.
“You’d never play hockey again,” said Kane.
“We’d lose one of the best captains ever,” said Keith.
“The nurse said there’s a 64% chance you won’t play hockey again,” I said.
“So you have to be really strict with your decisions from now on,” said Shaw.
“Now get some rest,” said Keith.
Next Game-
We don’t have Toews but we can’t just not play because we don’t have our captain. And we know it. For now I am captain. The game just doesn’t seem right I mean with out him here.
We’re down 2-1 and we are being beat by Vancouver. We are starting the 3rd now. I get the starting face-off. The guy who I’m going against says, “So how’s your boyfriend. Did he get caught drunk driving?”
I didn’t respond I just simply won the faceoff and then I ignored him. But then we did another face off and he said the same thing and then I dropped my gloves and stick. I just kept on punching until I couldn’t and then finished with “He isn’t my boyfriend.” Kane got up off the bench and pulled me off he knew it had to be about Jonathan.
The ref ejected me from the game and then Kane skated me off the ice and sat me down in my spot to just sulk. And then he left. I just sat there still in my gear for about 10 minutes and then got up showed and changed. I left and went home by the time the team got back I was gone.
A/N- Do you like don't forget to comment. Drama is coming soon (Kinda).
