After Mom yelled at the doctor, which was absolutely hilarious from where I was standing, although probably not so much from where he was, Maddi was released and we went home. At this point, all I wanted to do was sleep. So we trudged up the stairs and put Maddi to bed after such an exhausting day. I sat on the couch figuring that I was heading there myself after I got a quick drink of water.
But, mom had other ideas.
"So, baby", she began, while starting the dishes. "You wanna tell me what has been going on?
I froze. "Um, what do you mean, mum?" I tried to seem innocent even though I knew this time I wouldn't be able to blow it over with some falling excuse.
Mom sighed, "Emily, I know something has been happening. I don't know what, but something certainly has. Now, why don't you tell me how you got all those cuts and bruises. Were you in a fight? Did somebody jump you? I'd like to know what is going on with my little girl."
"Mom, I'm not really a little girl anymore. I'm 16-"
"I don't care if your 16 or 65", Mom interrupted. "You are my little girl and that's it. Now, be a good little girl and tell me what has been going on in school?"
"It's ok, I've got Jenny and Rose and--"
"So, it's definately school?"
Cursing inwardly, I realized I just gave away a very valuble peice of infomation.
"Mom, please don't worry about it. It will stop, I just need to ride out the storm for a little bit."
"There is absolutely no reason to have to deal with bullying- either at school or anywhere else for that matter. Now, as my daughter, I have a God-given responsiblitly to protect, raise and teach you. I can't protect you if you don't tell me whats going on."
"Mom, you have enough on your plate already, you don't need to look after me, too."
"Looking after you IS my responsibility, baby!! Don't tell me it's not! And don't you dare worry about whats on my plate. That is my business and my duties to take care of. You can't take care of everyone, Emmy."
Tears leaking out of my eyes, I realized mom was telling me to do the exact oppisite of what I had been doing for so long. So, I sat at the kitchen table, defeated and worn out- pysically, mentally and emotionally.
And I told her everything.

I woke up with a jolt on the couch, blanket over me.
I remembered what happened last night and sighed. And then the tears started leaking out of my eyes again. I can't believe I told her everything. Absolutely everything.
Mom tiptoed out of her bedroom and I sat up.
"Mornin', Mum."
"Oh, hey sweetie, I thought you were still sleeping."
"No, I'm awake... really hungry, too", I admitted.
"I'm on it", she said with a smile. Maybe Mom isn't as angry as I thought she was going to be after she had insisted upon going to the school and personally talking to the principle and students who were bothering me.
"Hey, Em? Did you by any chance have a nightmare last night?" Mom wondered aloud.
"Um, I don't know? Why? What would make you think that?"
"Oh", Mom started out with a frown. "I heard you mumbling something about kids hurting you and I have to much on my plate and a few other things... Care to explain?"
It wasn't real.
It was a dream.
Mom doesn't know anything.
Sh*t. More lying.
Forcing a fake smile on my face, I replied, "Nothing that I can think of. Sorry."
Frown deepening, Mom turned away and said, "When you need to talk about it, I'm here. And put some Polysporin on those cuts of yours. I don't want them getting infected."
"Sure thing, Mum", I casually said even though Ifelt like an elephant had just sat on my chest.
So, she didn't completely know.
Thank God it's Saturday. I won't have to deal with that evil redhead until Monday... or never. Please never....
Phone in my pocket vibrating, I check it to see that I have a text. From Ian.
I can't tell wether to be terrified or thankful.
*I'm picking you up in 20 mins. Be ready to go places.* -Ian
Well, this could get interesting.
*Where are we going? And why are you picking me up at 8:30 in the morning on a Saturday?* -Emily
Before I get a chance to ponder over his abruptness to much, he replys.
*Just be ready, Nerd* -Ian
"Thanks Ian, Thats sooo helpful", I think to myself. sarcastically.
"Eggs are done, Em" Mom hollers from the kitchen.
"K", I call as I walk into the kitchen. "But apperently, I'm going out."
"Oh? Well, have fun", Mom said offhandedly. "I don't know if I will be here when you get back, but if not then Maddi is with Rose's dad."
"His name is Mike."
"Oh, right... I always forget that name..." Mom mused.
Another thing about my mom that I love is how trusting she is when it comes to me and how bad she is with Mike's name. I think she likes him.
After eating a plateful of eggs and chasing it with a quick glass of milk, I get dressed in some school clothes.
I wonder how Ian would react if I wore my around-the-house clothes out with him... Oh well, not happening. At least, not with Ian.
'Maybe Ethan', I thought as a volley of butterfly's flitted their way through my stomach.
Then the doorbell rang.
D*mn, I'm not ready.
