"Okay girls," said the sergeant sitting behind the desk in the Phoenix police station. "Are you going to tell me what really happened?"
Claire and Sophia slumped in the wooden chairs. They glanced at each other. Sophia motioned with her hand to 'go ahead and tell the man' knowing she would work the back end for clean-up.
Claire sat up. "So, we've told everyone what happened, like, five hundred times. And this is totally messed up that we had to be locked up in jail because these two creep guys tried to attack us and sell us on the underground sex trade internet."
"Uh huh." The chubby fingers tapped on the desk. "Go on."
"Okay," Claire continued, "and we had like no other choice but to creeper spray them and then our car was in the shop so we took Fred's and we were gonna just park it and then get a rental."
"You stole a semi-truck." The deputy leaned back and interlaced his hands behind his head, exposing armpit sweat stains.
Claire looked at Sophia. Sophia rolled her eyes. Claire continued. "Well, it wasn't, like, we planned to; it just happened that way and no one got hurt or anything. Just give Fred his truck back, but I would totally investigate him and see if there's like DNA from missing girls on the seats and stuff."
The deputy put his elbows on his desk. "Like on CSI?"
Sophia sat up. "Look. Spraying those guys was clearly self defense. We didn't steal no truck because the driver had let us into the cab. No victim, no crime and the media will crush you." She waited for the expression on the deputy's face. He raised a single eyebrow. "So, give us a ride in an unmarked to Jerry's Towing where the car's been towed and fixed. No paperwork, no problems."
"And like we keep it all on the d-low," Claire added.
With a slow shake of his head, "Uh huh," the deputy said. "Well, let me catch you on the flip side and tell you you're staying right here in the Phoenix substation luxury suites until your parents come and pick you up."
"Oh," Sophia said. She folded her arms and tossed her braids over her shoulder. "That should be interesting."
