It's May of 2008 in Orange County, California.

Life is good.

Until it isn't.

This is a fictional story about a family of four. A very typical Orange County family who live in Coto De Caza-- which is a very well-to-do neighborhood. There are guard gates and "estates" with their own guard gates. Golf courses and horse trails wind around the perfectly manicured lawns.

It is understood that everyone who lives here is beautiful. Wives are thin and never seen without the right amount of make-up. Husbands drive BMWs and their collared shirts tuck into their golf shorts. Everyone son makes the all-star team. And every girl is popular.

In this family, the dad's name is Steve. Steve owns his own Brokerage Firm and makes good money. A brokerage firm loans money to people to buy homes and cars. A brokerage firm then sells those loans to banks. The banks collect the interest from the loans and Steve's firm now has more money to loan and then to sell. That's all you'll need to know about brokerage firms.

The mom is named Michelle. Michelle sells Real Estate part-time. She really wanted to be an interior designer, but she kinda fell into this and the money was good.

The oldest son is Drew. He's a senior and very serious about school. He's smart, not geek-smart, but studies a lot smart. He wants to get into any college that will take him far away from his family.

The daughter is Claire. She just turned 16. She's really smart too, but she's rebel-smart. Her look is more of "emo-hippie" and it drives her mom crazy. Which is mostly the point. Her best friend is Sophia.

I couldn't decide who should "tell" the story because it's really a journey they all make, but for different reasons. So, I take turns letting them each tell it from his or her point of view.

I think you will see yourself and/or someone you know, in each of the characters.

It's a story of self-discovery. They have to fall apart as a family to try to come back together. They need to understand what is really valuable. And they have to do it before one of them spend that rest of his/her life in jail...

This story is almost complete and I'm very excited to share it with you.  I apologize for the use of the "F word."
