The hero had been through a lot these past few hours, so letting him sleep was all Shadow could do to make things alright again. The sight of the sleeping hedgehog, who would probably wake with a headache worse than anything he has ever felt, made Shadow suddenly have a bombardment of old memories with scenes similar to this rush back before he could stop them.

His mind was soon plagued with memories he wished he could forget.

~

Shadow rested his head in his palm as memories swirled in his head. He closed his eyes to shut them out but the dark behind his eyelids were only a canvas to paint the images into vivid color. No matter how hard he tried, eyes closed or not, he couldn't push them away.

Instead of trying so hard to keep them out, Shadow welcomed them one at a time, letting his mind shift through unwanted visitors. Those memories, some sickly, some sweet, and some just sickly sweet. He greeted them reluctantly.

~Memory one~

"Come on Shads!" Sonic begged, his wide green eyes watching him with earnest. Shadow looked down at the hedgehog. He studied him as Sonic lay under thin white sheets, a paleness washing over his complexion.

"You know I can't bring you home," Shadow told the hero, "they are trying to keep you safe here."

The blue blur scoffed, "Safe from what? Myself?"

"You know damn well what they are trying to do Sonic, and you know that it's for the best, even if you admit it or not." Shadow shot back, his fuse short and his senses plagued with worry.

The once strong hero was now a shell of his former self. His quills a ghostly blue, his eyes a dull green, and his brightly peach colored patches along his body were now matted and turning a sickly gray. It happened so suddenly. The hero getting knocked down from his pedestal raised so high. The crushing blow was devastating to all of Mobius, to Sonic especially.

A new hero emerged from the dark; taking things down faster than sonic, saving people faster than sonic. Sonic was left in the dust like some rag hung out to dry, only to be left there in the sun.

"It's helping," Sonic dully admitted, "helping me get bored."

Shadow rolled his eyes at the stubbornness in Sonic's tone. The hero seemed to have no need for trying anymore, and Shadow knew that if he wasn't in the room, Sonic would find anything to finish what he started.

"I won't let you just die." Shadow stated, his voice becoming serious and almost deeper from before. This sudden shift in Shadow's already deep voice made Sonic shiver. "Why do you care?"

A frown washed over the ultimate lifeforms features.

"I care because I know you can show that damn wannabe hero who you really are. It was sudden and unexpected for that prick to show up, yes, but that does not mean you should just drop everything and wish to die! You're Sonic the Hedgehog, aren't you?"

Sonic blinked. He let the words just spilled out dawn on him for a moment. Shadow was right, wasn't he? He was telling the hero the truth.

Sonic, for the first time in two weeks, smiled at the ultimate lifeform. The life in his eyes seemed to come back.

~Memory two~

The blue hedgehog curled under the blankets, pushing his body into Shadow's side. Sonic mumbled something in his sleep, but even with his heightened hearing, the ultimate lifeform couldn't make out what escaped the blue hero's lips.

It didn't matter though, Shadow just smiled at Sonics incoherent words and wrapped an arm around his waist. Sonic purred at the touch and moved his head to rest against Shadow's chest, snuggling his nose into the soft white fur.

"You smell nice." Sonic mumbled, his voice slurred with sleep. "Thanks blue." Shadow chuckled.

The hero raised his head to look into crimson orbs. The ultimate lifeform looked back, watching as emerald eyes shifted with emotions. Sonic smiled.

He leaned up and placed his lips gently to Shadow's, kissing him in the early morning light. Shadow kissed back, being careful to the bruised lips that brushed along his. Sonic hummed and pushed his body to mold with the ultimate lifeforms, letting the ache from the most recent battle wash away as he focused on their moment.

The morning was quiet and surreal. Shadow wished he could be able to do this forever, to never let the hero in his arms go, but that wasn't up to him. Shadow knew that as time went on that this could be the last time this ever happened.

He wished that wasn't true.

~Memory three~

"I hate you." Sonic hissed as Shadow leaned over him, pushing sonic's blue body into the bed below them. "Your body doesn't." Shadow retorted, smirking. The hero glared at the smirk but the breathless moan that left his lips spoke a different emotion.

"I didn't agree to this." The speedster growled, his body arching and his eyes rolling back and closing.

"You did, you just won't admit it." Shadow whispered in Sonics pointed ear, making him shiver under him. Shadow grinned at his submissiveness and placed kisses along Sonics neck, biting the skin from time to time.

"Ah...Y-You bastard...I hate how you make me feel." Sonic groaned out, his hands gripping onto Shadow's arms with force, his body shaking and his breathing getting quicker. "I love it." The ultimate lifeform said against saturated fur, continuing his quick bites on the hero's neck.

"Faster, g-god damnit." The hero hissed, his hips working in unison to his charcoal counterpart. Shadow chuckled deeply to Sonics harsh tone and obeyed his command, moving faster to please him.

"Ahh!" Sonic screamed, his body jolting before it went limp in Shadow's arms. "I h-hate how y-you do this to m-me."

"Stop fighting it, your body speaks different."

"That's how a body reacts to this kind of thing!" Sonic shot back, his voice angry but his eyes clouded with lust.

Shadow rolled his eyes and placed his lips to the hero's, making the anger wash away. Sonic fought and fought against the ultimate lifeform, refusing to admit his love and lust for him. Yet, when the nights turned into moments like these, Sonic eventually calmed down, letting their night become unforgettable.

Shadow pulled himself from his thoughts, shutting them away before they could cloud his judgement and hurt his heart. Shadow wanted to run now, he wanted to get away from the world that never changed and always plagued him with thoughts he wished he could forget.

No, he thought, I wont leave sonic now.

The ultimate lifeform let out a heavy breath and grabbed Sonic's hand, holding it gently within his own. If so many memories could bother Shadow, then why hasn't he just left them in the past?

It was because he never wanted to forget, but sometimes it just hurt to remember.
