Maxine Lehnsherr

I have to get out, or I'll die. I try cutting through the metal, but my sword just bounces back, almost hitting my face.

"Please... get me out." I can feel my eyes tearing up.

Adam

She's in an adamantium sphere... how?

I feel my way over the entire thing and I hear sniffling coming from the inside, and then more coughing.

"Don't worry Maxi, I'll get you out soon." I say to her and the sniffling stops, but so does her breathing.

"No!" I drive my powers into the molecules and tear the sphere in half. Her figure is limp and I pick her up to feel a small heartbeat and sigh in relief. She's lighter than I thought she would be, but her wings are heavy and I'm drained from using so much of my energy. My feet hit something that I can't see and I trip, the weight of her wings tip my weight and we both tumble to the ground.

"Um... Adam, what are you doing?" A feminine voice says above me as I scramble to see how Maxine is. I look up and see a flushed Christin standing with Cap, who's face looks a little red in the dark.

"She was trapped in an adamantium sphere, she was dying, while whoever was supposed to be watching her was off doing... Other things." Both of their shades deepen and I can feel the embarrassment radiating off of them.

Christin

Oh, shooty shoot, I was supposed to be guarding her room, but... Steve is just... too distracting. I can feel his arm up against my back and I feel so bad and yet so good at the same time. This wouldn't have happened if I had stayed, but I also wouldn't have been able to feel like this if I had.

Maxine's eyes fly open and she jumps up, looks at me, Steve, and then Adam. She looks right through us though, like she can't see.

"Nein, please don't, I can't give it to you..." She looks terrified.

"Hey Maxi, it's OK, it's me Adam." She seems to see him now, but she starts to shake and closes her eyes again.

"Do you know what's happening to her?" I ask, worry sewn within my voice.

"No I don-" he's cut off by the frantic footsteps of Wolverine, who runs over to where we are.

"What did you do?!" he growls at me and his blue eyes accuse me of something I would never do.

"What do you mean, do you think I would do this?!" I yell right back at him, I'm not letting him talk to me like that.

"Well what would you expect from me, I don't know anything about you, except that I don't like how your magic smells." I get right in his face, which is surprisingly not hard to do, since we're both short.

"I saved her life and you didn't know me then either, I don't see what the difference is." I throw my hands up in frustration and pinch the bridge of my nose before turning back towards Steve.

"If you didn't do anything, then what's wrong with Maxi?" I hear behind me and we all turn around to face where she is, but neither her or Adam are there anymore. Instead they're both by an empty hallway.

"It was here, I know it was because I was stuck in it." Maxi says to Logan, who has already walked over to where they are.

"I guess you're feeling better?" I ask her and she looks at me and nods.

"What were you stuck in?" Steve asks her, and she pulls out the sword. The same sword I've been searching for ever since I learned about what it could do.

"I was in an Adamantium sphere, I couldn't get out, but Adam pulled it apart and saved me," She looks at him and continues, "thank you." Her eyes tear up and a single drop rolls down her cheek. I walk up and touch her shoulder.

"Did you see anything... else?" I ask her and she answers yes.

"What was it, what did you see?" I can see her thinking and she looks up with almost sorrow.

"I saw Cap. Dead." That can't be true, she has to be lying, that's not what she saw... Is it?

I look over at Steve and he's frowning.

"I doubt that's what she saw-" I don't get to finish speaking when Maxine interrupts me.

"Yes, it is, do you know what this is, because you should, you're a sorceress, right?" She holds her sword up and it's glowing blue in the darkness.

"Yeah." I say quickly.

"Then you know that what I saw is because of this, and that it will happen unless we stop it." Realization takes ahold of my heart and it's held in a vice like grip.

"No. We have to save you, Steve." I feel like I'm about to cry.

"I'm going to be OK, it's not me I'm worried about, it's all the others that are part of the Secret Avengers that I have to help..." He pauses and continues, "you're not going to like this, but I'm turning myself in."
