Chapter 5
I just looked at the alarm clock on the bedside table so I know its 5:03am. I can't sleep. I've been awake for a while now worrying about school in a couple hours. It's going to be different, which makes me worried. What if they don't like me? What if I don't make friends? What if they make fun of me? My clothes? Accent? I'm not usually this insecure but I mean its America. I don't know my way around, everything is different. I can't even remember living in the United States, I was young. My parents did tell me that we lived in New York, but this Isn't New York, this is North Dakota. I'm not sure if I hate it here or not.
Don't get me wrong so far I like it with my host family and Nick and everything. But how about school? That's my biggest fear. Nick said they will like me, but what the hell does he know? Not much. He told me he would show me around school and I don't need to worry about anything because he will be there. With a sigh, I get out from underneath the comfortable duvet and head to the bathroom. I splash some cold water on my face to wake me up, and then stare at my reflection. I look a mess, my dark hair is tangled and my eyes have black bags underneath them.
Not a good appearance for the first day of a new school. I grab my toothbrush and toothpaste and begin to brush. After brushing I head back to my room, and look at the alarm clock again. Only 5:21. Fuck. It. I head over to the closet and grab a pair of running shoes and some socks. Well since I'm already awake I'll just go for a run. I also grab my mp3 and head out.
Five minutes into my run, a guy steps in line beside me. "Hello, I haven't seen you around. Are you new here?" he asks in a deep voice. I look up at him and into his chocolate brown doe eyes, his brown hair lies a little across his forehead, he has a strong jaw- I've noticed that all the guys I've met here do- and full lips. He seems to be about six feet and is slightly ripped. Hot- all the guys I've met here are also very hot.
"Yeah I just moved here from England" I reply. What happened to not talking to strangers?
He kind of nods his head, "Oh you're the exchange student" he says
"How did you know?" I ask as we continue running.
"Everyone knows at school" he answers with a smile "You're the talk of the town. We don't get much new students here"
Oh dang that's not good "Oh"
"You don't sound excited" he notices. Well no shit Sherlock.
"Not really" I say with slight sarcasm.
"Well you should be. Everyone is looking forward to meeting you. And when they find out that you are this sexy, everyone will love you" he says
Sexy? He must be blind. "Right" I say with a dismissive tone. Then, "I don't even know your name" I say remembering he never introduced himself.
"It's Chase" he says with a smirk.
"I'm Kaylie" I tell him
"I knew that" he says.
During the rest of our run we talk about different things, getting to know each other better. I found out that he has two siblings but lives with his best friends in a house they call a bachelor pad. His best friends happen to be Tyler- the other guy with Nick and the Reynolds at the airport- and Nick's brother, who I now know as Ian. He's the wide receiver for the school's football team and enjoys playing baseball with groups of friends. He even invited me to play with them sometime, but I told him I didn't even know what the sport was about, and he promised to teach me. We've decided we would meet up and run together in the mornings. He seems like a nice lad, but don't all boys?
Walking into the house, i walk to the kitchen for a drink, I'm parched. I walk in to find Sara in there fiddling with the coffee machine. "Morning" I greet her as a grab a glass of water and gulp it down in one breath.
"Morning, did you have a nice run" she asks like a prying mother
"Yeah, I met a guy named Chase" I tell her while grabbing another glass of water and taking little sips.
"Oh, he's a nice young man" she says with a smile then adds, "Wish he could rub off on Ian but oh no"
I chuckle slightly, "Yea he seemed nice. Well I have to go get ready for school" I saying uttering school with venom.
"Alright dear, I'll make some breakfast. Would you like some tea? I know British people love their tea" she says with a smile. Yeah we do love our tea...
"Yes please" I answer as I walk up to my room and into the bathroom for a long sweat cleansing shower. After my shower I blow dry my hair with the blow dryer Sara gave me along with some other Stuff last night. I put on some lacy underwear. Yes I love lace and I have a thing for undergarments, sue me. I pull on a pair of denim shorts, a purple camisole, and a black V-neck lacy blouse. Slipping my feet into a pair of black sandals, I grab my backpack and head downstairs for breakfast.
After breakfast, Nick leads me out to his Porsche, we both hop in, and he begins the drive to school. During the first half of the ride, Nick kept talking about how everyone will love and I'll fit just right in. But I ignored him; I guess he learnt the u wasn't paying any heed I his words, and decided to keep his mouth shit for the remainder of the ride. Before I knew it we were pulling into the parking lot of Oakland high school.
"Well this is it" Nick says. No shit Sherlock. "You'll be fine" he continues. Without waiting for another word from him, I sigh rather loudly and step out of the car to crowd of curious onlookers.
