Chapter 6

hi guys, so i realized with how old i want the kits to be they should not be eating prey yet, so in this story kits can start eating real prey soon after they are born.

Bramblekit woke up and at first didn't know how she got to the nursery. Then the memories of the previous night came flooding back. She sadly walked out of the nursery and crossed the clearing to the fresh kill pile. She selected a rather scrawny squirrel and realized how close it was to leaf bare. She sat beneath her tree to eat. As she was slowly chewing Turtlekit came up and sat down beside her. "Cherrywhisker is in the medicine den until she gets better if you want to go see her." Turtlekit said after a few quiet moments. 

"i don't think she wants to see me." Bramblekit replied sadly. "i'll come with you" Turtlekit said. "OK" Bramblekit said reluctantly. 

They walked to the entrance of the medicine den, and peeked inside to see Cherrywhisker lying in a nest of her own. She walked in and called out hesitantly "hi Cherrywhisker""hmpp" Cherrywhisker grunted and turned her back on her.

 Bramblekit races out of the den,hurt. She stopped by the camp entrance and looked out at the forest. "do you want to walk with me" said a voice behind her. "W-Whitewhisker. Wont i get in trouble" she said, lowering her eyes in the watchful gaze of Whitewhisker. "not if your with me" Whitewhisker replied, his whiskers twitching with amusement 

 He started walking out the entrance, with Bramblekit following close behind. They walked for a while until they came across the largest tree Bramblekit had ever seen. "this is sky oak the largest tree in clan territory." Whitewhisker said with pride. "wow," Bramblekit said, great awe in her voice. 

Suddenly her belly rumbled, and she looked up at Whitewhisker in embarrassment. His whiskers twitched with amusement and he said " lets get back to camp. You are not the only one who is hungry." they started walking back to camp and approached the camp entrance. "why don't you fetch us some fresh kill so we can eat together. And i will ask Amberstar if she wants anything." Wow eating with the clan deputy. What an honor! Bramblekit thought. She bounded over to the fresh kill pile while Whitewhisker headed to Amberstar's den. She picked out a plump mouse and a plump sparrow. Then Whitewhisker came up and said"we will be joining Amberstar to eat today." wow the deputy AND clan leader. What an honor. "why don't you pick out a squirrel for her. Its her favorite" he said snapping her out of her thoughts. "OK" she said reaching for a fat squirrel to take to her. Whitewhisker picked up the mouse and sparrow while Bramblekit dragged the squirrel over to Amberstar's den. They went inside and Bramblekit set down the squirrel in front of Amberstar."H-hi Amberstar" she stammered. "Hello Bramblekit. How is your day going" Amberstar said settling down to eat her squirrel. Bramblekit did the same with her mouse and replied"fine" Amberstar took a bite of her squirrel while studying Bramblekit. Bramblekit leaned down and took a bite of her mouse. She chewed slowly. They ate for a few moments until Bramblekit couldn't eat anymore. She stepped back and Amberstar said "you full?" She nodded. Amberstar dragged the remains towards her and started eating it. When all that was left was a pile of bones, Amberstar hauled herself to her feet. "well i have a clan meeting to call" they all went out of the den and sat below highrock."All cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here, beneath the highrock, for a clan meeting" Amberstar called. All of the clan gathered. "at dawn we will go to shadowclan and avenge stormclouds death!""the cats coming will be tigerstripe, rosepetal, dustpaw, vinepaw, whitewhisker, lionfur, scorchpaw, daisystem, cinderfur, and moonheart. I will lead the battle patrol. Everyone i called eat and rest before the battle. We leave at dawn. We will avenge Stormcloud!" "Stormcloud,Stormcloud" the clan called. The cats that she had called gathered around the fresh kill pile to eat before the battle. Amberstar leaped down from highrock and disappeared into her den. Bramblekit decided to go tell Cherrywhisker he was being avenged. She went into the medicine den and saw her asleep. Better not wake her she thought. She walked out and saw Amberstar reappearing out of her den. She saw the clearing was empty. I should go out of camp. She thought mischievously. She decided to go back to sky oak. She slipped out the thorn barrier and started walking. She walked for a while until she saw it. She looked up, still in awe of how big it was. She padded up to it and felt the bark. Wow its soft she thought in amazement. Well I'd better get back before i get caught. She started walking back to camp.

Where is Bramblekit Turtlekit thought. She saw her coming through the entrance. She bounded to the nursery and Turtlekit followed her, determined to question her. She slipped into the nursery and saw Bramblekit pretending to sleep in a nest. "i know you are awake Bramblekit." Turtlekit said. Bramblekit sighed and sat up. "where did you go?" she demanded. " i went to sky oak. But please don't tell anyone." Bramblekit pleaded. "well....." Turtlekit said, then looked at Bramblekit's pleading face. "fine" she sighed in exasperation. "Thank you" Bramblekit said, relieved. They both went out of the nursery. Redkit came up and said"do you want to play?""no thanks" Bramblekit said, "i am going to eat again." She went to the fresh kill pile and chose a blackbird. She took a bite, and the warm meat filled her mouth. She devoured the rest of the blackbird in hungry, ravish bites. When all that was left was a pile of bones, she stepped away. Her belly full she got a ball of moss from the medicine den and went over to where Turtlekit and Redkit were playing. "guys,lets play mossball!" she said, throwing it over Redkits head. Turtlekit caught it and threw it back. Amberstar jumped on highrock and yowled "time for battle. Line up at the entrance." everybody lined up and got ready to leave.

Ooh cliffy. Will come out with another chapter soon. This was a long one though. More than a thousand words! I am surprised at myself :-) bye my loyal readers.
