Chapter 7

The thunderclan cats streamed out of the entrance to camp. They paused for a moment at the border but then raced on, careful to remain unseen. Amberstar raced along at the front of the battle patrol, whitewhisker beside her, her sleek ginger pelt a blur. Once they came across shadowclans camp, amberstar stopped and put her tail up, a signal to stop. The rest of the patrol gathered around her " I will lead one patrol for the first wave, then whitewhisker will come in with a group of cats when they are losing badly or they think they are winning. Only a small patrol will come with me so they let their guard down. Everybody else hide in the bushes until whitewhisker gives his signal. My cats come with me." She said picking her cats. They came forward, waiting for Amberstars signal to attack. She waved her tail and yowled "Thunderclan, attack." they all rushed forward into the camp. Amberstar looked around and realized they were all sleeping. Weird she thought what about the dawn patrol she shook it off and walked forward. "Amberstar" Rowanstar called, "why do you attack while we are sleeping for no reason. "we are here to avenge our warrior" Amberstar snarled back. She leaped on him and started digging her claws into his back. He yowled in pain then threw her off. He tried to leap on her, but she dodged it and slammed her paw on his head. He collapsed and didn't move. Deciding he was done for now, she leaped into the battle and landed square on someones shoulders. They threw her off and dug their claws into her ear. She yowled and ripped her ear free. Blood splattered and she felt it dripping down her ear. That's going to leave a mark she thought, wincing in pain. She turned around and hooked the cats paws from under them. They fell and amberstar pinned them down, dragging her back claws along its belly. She paused and looked around. we're winning! She thought. Then the other cat leaped on her back and dug his claws in. she yowled in pain and bucked, trying to throw him off. He hung on until she bucked with all of her strength. He fell off and landed with a sickening thud. He laid there without moving. "foxpelt, no" a she cat called. "He was my mate you fox heart" she snarled. Amberstar stared back at her unflinchingly. The she cat leaped so that she was right beside her and ran her claws down her side. Amberstar yowled and curled her claws into the grass. She kicked out with all of her strength and the she cat flew off the ground and landed with a crunch. She looked around and saw rowanstar was hauling himself to his feet. "Amberstar" he called. She walked over to him warily. "you have won" he rasped "call your cats out of my camp and give us time to recover. You have taken one of my lives and foxpelt and troutstream are either dead or they will never be a proper warrior again." She nodded and yowled "Thunderclan, we have won and avenged Stormcloud. Let us go back to camp" "Amberstar" one of her cats called. She saw the unmoving body of rosepetal. No she thought in despair please don't be dead. She walked forward and saw the faint rise and fall of her chest. thank starclan she thought. "two of my warriors, carry her back to camp." Two cats settled her on their backs and started walking out the entrance. amberstar followed them close behind as they started walking back to camp. they walked for a while and she saw the sun rising above the trees. they approached the camp and walked through the entrance. the two cats carried rosepetal to the medicine den so she could get treated. amberstar jumped onto highrock, but didnt bother with the summoning words-everyone was already gathered. "we have won this battle" Amberstar said "but there will be others. our war is not over. cats in the battle eat, rest, and get your wounds treated." everyone disassembled and started talking about the battle. bramblekit ran to dustpaw and rambled "what happened? was the battle hard? how many cats did you fight? did you beat them all?did you-""slow down bramblekit" he said in amusement. "i fought lots of cats, sometimes on my own, sometimes with a partner.it was challenging but i was fine when i remembered my training. and yes i beat all of them" he said proudly. "were you scared?" bramblekit asked. "of course i was." he replied. moonheart came up and said to dustpaw"i will be taking over as your mentor until rosepetal heals. you should get your wounds treated, then we are going hunting. the clan needs to eat.""ok moonheart" dustpaw said obediently. bramblekit saw kinkfur cme out of the medicine den with a somber look on her face and go over to amberstar. she leaned over and whispered something in her ear. amberstars face twisted in a look of despair. she walked and jumped on highrock. "all cats old enough to catch their own prey, gather here, beneath the highrock, for a clan meeting." she called. everyone gathered and looked up expectantly, waiting for amberstar to speak. "i have just received news from kinkfur about rosepetal. s-shes dead." amberstar said, her voice cracking. "what!?" all of the clan clamored at the same time."everyone" amberstar yelled above them "we will hold a vigil for her tonight. everyone get ready. clan dismissed." bramblekit walked over to kinkfur. "is there anything i can do to help?" she asked. "yes, you can grab two warriors and help them carry her to the clearing for the vigil." kinkfur replied."ok" bramblekit said and walked to the warriors den. inside rainwhisker and cinderfur were in there nests sharing tongues. we are going to have some new kits soon bramblekit thought."can you guys help me carry rosepetals body to the clearing" she asked."sure" they said sadly. they all walked out and hoisted her body on rainwhiskers shoulders, bramblekit and cinderfur on either side to steady her. they set her down in the middle of the clearing. kinkfur came up and said "can you groom her fur so it is nice and neat? then i will put herbs on her pelt to cover up the smell of death.""sure" cinderfur answered. they started grooming her fur so that she looked like she was sleeping instead of being dead. when they were done kinkfur came up with a bundle of herbs and started putting them on rosepetals pelt. when she was finished she looked like she was sleeping. everyone that was ever close to rosepetal came and sat down next to her. bramblekit pressed her nose in rosepetals cold fur. goodbye rosepetal she thought. amberstar came up and said "rosepetal has lost her life avenging a clanmate and for that we will forever be grateful. i send you off to starclan with hopes that they will bring you peace and relaxation in silverpelt." everyone either sat by rosepetal of slunk to their nests.

hope you like it. it was the longest chapter in this book so far. i made a deal with my friend that i would make the next three chapters all more than a thousand words so the chapters will start getting longer.
