Chapter 8

after the vigil the next morning bramblekit woke up and felt a stinging pain in her side. she looked down and realized she had slept on a thorn and she had a very shallow scratch in her side. she walked to the medicine den and saw Cherrywhisker still sleeping. i hope she gets better soon she thought. she called out to seedpaw, who was working in the back of the den. she came to the main  part and said"what can i help you with?""i slept on a thorn and it scratched my side." she answered. seedpaw walked to the back part of the den and got some herbs. she sat them down by bramblekit and started working. kinkfur walked in and said "seedpaw,don't forget we have- bramblekit, what are you doing in here""a thorn scratched my side in my sleep." she explained. "oh OK"she said cheerily "seedpaw don't forget we have to go to moonstone for half moon. we will leave around sunhigh" seedpaw stood up and said"ok all done bramblekit, just dont mess with anymore thorns." bramblekit stood up and started walking out. Cherrywhisker stirred and saw bramblekit. with an angry yowl she jumped on her and scratched her side. bramblekit stood there, helpless to do anything. kinkfur ran to them and pulled Cherrywhisker off of her. "bramblekit, get amberstar." she said hurriedly. bramblekit ran to Amberstar's den, pausing a moment at the entrance. "amberstar?" she called. "enter" came a voice inside. she walked in and said"Cherrywhisker attacked me while i was walking out of the medicine den." in a moment Amberstar stood up and ran to the medicine den. bramblekit followed her. inside,she saw amberstar speaking to Cherrywhisker. "you cant attack your own kit" amberstar was saying, voice full of worry. "shes NOT my kit." Cherrywhisker spat. Amberstar turned to kinkfur and said"is there anything you can give her that will help her fall asleep?""i have poppy seeds" she replied. she went back into the herb part of her den and came back with three tiny black seeds. she put them next to Cherrywhisker, and she obediently licked them up. within moments she was in her nest asleep. "seedpaw and i need to go to the moonstone, but can you appoint a warrior to keep an eye on her, and to give her her more poppy seeds when she wakes up?" kinkfur asked. "sure ill do it myself" amberstar replied absentmindedly. "come on seedpaw, time to go" she called. the walked out of the den, pausing for a moment at the exit. "bye, bramblekit" seedpaw said. they left and started walking. they walked down to the shadowclan border and met the shadowclan medicine cats. kinkfur nodded to them and they all continued on. when they got to highstones they realized riverclan and windclan were already there. they all nodded to each other and jaywing said "should we start the ceremony?""actually i have a ceremony to preform first" kinkfur interrupted. "seedpaw, come forward.""me!" she exclaimed in surprise. kinkfurs whiskers twitched in amusement, but she called her forward""i,kinkfur, medicine cat of thunderclan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. she has trained hard to understand the ways of a medicine cat, and with your help, she will serve her clan for many moons. seedpaw do you promise to uphold the ways of a medicine cat, to stay away from rivalry between clan and clan, and to protect all cats equally, even at the cost of your life.""i do""then by the powers of starclan, i give you your true name as a medicine cat, seedpaw from this moment you will be known as seedpelt. starclan honors your kindness and your fierce loyalty, and we welcome you as a full medicine cat of thunderclan" seedpelts eyes beaming with pride they all touched their noses to the moonrock.

when the medicine cats emerged back at camp,sparklekit jumped on seedpelt and said "seedpaw. your back!""actually its seedPELT now" seedpelt said proudly. "wow, you got your full medicine cat name." sparklekit said in amazement. "we have work to do seedpelt."kinkfur interrupted. seedpelt got up and followed her mentor. they disappeared into the medicine den and sparklekit turned to bramblekit. "where did you get that scratch on your side?" she asked."a thorn" bramblekit half-lied. "are you OK, that looks like a pretty deep scratch?" "im fine" she lied again."i am going to eat" bramblekit said. she galloped away till she approached the pile. she chose a scrawny blackbird and sat down with it in front of her. she took a bite and felt the warm meat flood her mouth. she devoured the rest in hungry,ravish bites. when all that was left was a stack of bones, she pushed it away and stood up. she decided to go to one of the apprentices and ask if they could teach her the hunters crouch. she looked around and saw dustpaw standing around. she walked to him and asked"can you teach me the hunters crouch?""oh. i'm sorry bramblekit, i am waiting for moonheart to take me out for battle training.""oh" she said, disappointed. "when i get back, i promise i will teach you,OK?""OK"she mumbled. moonheart walked up and said" are you ready, dustpaw""yes, moonheart"he answered.they walked away and left bramblekit staring after them.

when moonheart and dustpaw came walking through the entrance, bramblekit bounded toward them and went up to dustpaw. "can you teach me, can you teach me" she chanted. "sure'' he laughed. "try crouching" she crouched low to the ground, her tail sticking up."tuck in your back feet more." he commanded, nosing her back legs forward"it will give you more power in your leap. and crouch lower so that your belly fur is almost touching the ground so the prey wont see you.""also put your tail down, so that its not touching the ground, but it is not sticking up wagging around." she fixed her crouch and looked at him for his approval. he nodded and said"that's as perfect as you are going to get while you are that small. now try landing on this piece of moss" he said pointing to a small patch. bramblekit leaped up and landed to the side of the moss. "your leap was amazing you just have to work on your aim." dustpaw said. bramblekit nodded and her belly rumbled. "i-i better go eat." she said in embarrassment.  she scampered off to the fresh kill pile.
