9. Don't Leave Me

*Julian's Point Of View*

I hear a soft whimpering coming from the bed. Opening my eyes I look over at Zoe. She tosses and turns in her sleep. I get up out of the arm chair by the window and walk over to her. Her head snaps back and forth. She's trying to run from something.

"What's going on in there?" I whisper.

Sweat beginst o bead on her forehead, causing her bangs to stick to her skin. She lets out a small gasp as if she's in pain.

I reach out and move ehr hair from her face. The moment my finger brushes across her skin, her eyes snap open and her hand flies to my wrist, stopping me.

"Zoe?"

Her breath somes in shallow gasps. She looks at me for a moment.

Then, she begins to cry.

"Zoe!?" I sit down on the bed and pull her into my arms. "What's wrong?"

"Don't leave me." Zoe looks into my eyes. "Ever."

"I won't." I assure her. "Zoe what's wrong?"

"In my dream," She whispers. "You...you thought I was dead. Y-you killed yourself. I tried to stop you, but, Tom-"

"Shh. It's okay. It was just a dream. I'm still here. I'm never leaving you."

"Julian?"

"Yeah?"

"In the dream..." Zoe stops.

"Yes?"

"In the dream...you...said..."

"What did I say?"

"You said you loved me." She looks up at me like I'm about to yell at her or something.

Instead, I, continuing to hold her, think for a moment. Do I love her? To some degree...yes. I definitely have strong feelings for her. When we kissed in the woods, it was like a million fireworks went off in my head. But...was it love, or just lust? She is, after all, the only girl at camp that didn't seem to be as...attracted to me as the others. At least, not in the same way.

"I..."

"Julian?"

"Yeah?" I look down at her.

"Do you?"

"I..." Do I?

"It's okay if you don't," She whispers. "I mean, I wouldn't love me."

"Zoe-"

"No, it's true. I mean, I'm not pretty like the daughters of Aphrodite, I'm not smart like the daughters of Athena...I'm just-"

"Amazing." I look at her the moment I realize what I just said.

Did I just ruin everything? Between her and me?

"Really?" She smiles.

"Yeah."

Zoe yawns.

"C'mon, let's get you back to sleep," I go to lay her back down and she wraps her arms around my neck.

"I'm too scared to sleep alone."

"Okay, then, I'll stay with you."

I situate us so we're laying down, me on my back her halfway across my chest, both my arms around her. In moments she's asleep again. I stare at the ceiling. I wouldn't mind spending the rest of my life like this...
