Chapter 13

Chapter 13 - Kids

The mysterious kids finally reached their destination; an abandoned home. It seemed to have some type if ruins and writings on there.

"Kayo... there has to be something here that explains our powers... right...?" Jace asked, panting after running for so long. Kayo nodded.

"I-I... I hope so..." She said, her words slurring a bit. "Can you guys look around?"

"I'm tiiiired... take a break and lighten up..." Jayson complained, falling down to the soft grass.

"He's right, y'know..." Callie panted, leaning against the wall to catch her breath. Kayo sighed and sat herself down near SC.

"A-Anyway... we're here at this... ruined place... why are we here again?" SC questioned.

"To get rid of our unknown powers, duh." Jace said. "I personally don't like mine..."

"You can sense magic, Jace." Jayson blurted. "All I have is illusions."

"I agree with Jayson, but both of those are fine. It hurts my head when I try to see what type of monster it is..." Callie commented, rubbing her temples with her hands.

"You saved our asses back there." Kayo sighed. "But... I kind of like mine..."

"What is yours again...?" Callie asked, tilting her head in curiousity.

"Weaponry."

"That's the only useful one out of all of us." Jace retorted.

"H-Hey... All of ours are good too. Plus... M-Mine isn't so bad... potions? Guys, look on the bright side of your random powers."

"...I agree with SC." Jayson blurted.

"Whatever... we didn't ask for these anyway." Callie grumbled.

"Lighten up Cal..." Kayo muttered, her expression saddening a bit.

"All we were doing was looking for the kingdom... but no, we got these dumb powers and now we have to get rid of them." Jace complained under her breath.

"..."

It turned silence after an amount of heavy sighs, small complaints and glares at one another to signal a sign of confusion and "What now?".

After a short amount of time, Jayson got up from where he sat and checked out the ruins. He felt little dents with a pattern. He dusted it off, coughing a bit.

"Dude- rest..." SC quietly said. Jayson ignored him, and kept dusting it until it was clean to be eligable.

"Uhm... Callie... can you do me a favor...?"

"No!"

"Please, Callie... this might be important."

She grumbled, got up and looked at the text. Her eyes instantly lit up and words fumbled out of her mouth.

"Dig down, die. Look up, die. Go forward, live. But keep what you have." Her voice managed to get those words out. The others got up and stared at the ruins in disbelief.

"W-What does that mean...?" Jace asked.

"How am I supposed to know!?"

"Calm!" Kayo stood up and summoned a bow. "No fighting... this is a step closer..." She looked in the house, dusting it out to see something inside. She then got a sword and cut it down. Inside were piles of papers with five beds inside, a small table in the middle and a chest.

"...Huh..."

She walked in first, followed by SC, Jase, Jayson and Callie (in that order).

"...Five beds for five of us... how strange..." SC muttered with a potion in his hand. It had a transparent type of color.

"There's a chest here." Callie said casually. Jace's eyes quickly turned into a lavender color, and quickly grabbed Callie's hand before she could open the chest.

"Wait! There's something in it... It's not good..." She then glanced at Jayson. "J-Jayson..." He nodded, then a doppleganger of Callie had appeared. It opened the chest, and out came a beast that had taken shelter in it. It was a black beast with purple eyes and oozing purple goo dripping from its mouth. SC threw down the potion, which made everyone invisible. The monster tried attacking the illusion, who had dodged every attack. Kayo got her sword and tried charging at it, but it had sensed her. Its giant hand had flicked her back, and she was shot back.

"Kayo!" Jayson and Callie exclaimed. As they were still invisible, they stood still as the beast had crawled out of its home and left the small building, leaving a trace of ooze.

"...Phew..." Jace sighed of relief.

"K-Kayo!" SC ran to her, with everyone else behind her. Kayo was nearly unconscious, but luckily she was still breathing.

"T-Thanks..."

SC got a healing potion and gave it to Kayo.

"...So... now that that's settled... is this where we stay until we can find anythin' else to get rid of our powers...?" Callie questioned.

"Seriously? You wanna get rid of your powere still? Kayo's right... these powers are important." Jayson sighed as he responded with barely any breath. He laid down on a bed, and instantly flinched. Underneath the covers was a note.

'Test One Complete. Follow me and you'll get a stairway closer to removal.'

"...Are you kidding me...?"
