Chapter 10

As we walked away from the truck and towards the center of the field where there was a bonfire and lots of people, I suddenly felt completely out of my element.

Maybe an adventure wasn't such a good idea after all.

"Come on." Daniel said softly, sensing my hesitation.

I nodded, taking a deep breath.

"Where's your adventure?" Daniel asked, grabbing my hand as he pulled me along behind him.

I felt a tingle shoot up my arm as a smile grew on my face.

"It's right here." I winked, walking up to stand directly next to him.

He didn't let go of my hand, even though I didn't require his encouragement anymore.

"Hey look who finally showed up!" Casey laughed as we walked up to her and Wallace.

Wallace's eyes immediately dropped down to my hand linked with Daniel, but Daniel didn't react at all.

"We're staying for a bit." Daniel said quietly to me before turning to Wallace and Casey with a smile on his face.

"Hi!" Daniel said cheerfully.

"What's got you in such a good mood?" Wallace asked carefully, his eyes narrowing at Daniel.

"Well you see, I have had an excellent day." Daniel grinned, sitting down on the bench next to Wallace.

"You fucking smashed your truck into mine." Wallace said harshly.

So apparently he was still salty about that.

"Minor details." Daniel shrugged, pulling me down onto his lap.

My eyes widened slightly but Daniel wrapped his arms around my waist, his legs separating slightly so I could sit down on one of his knees with my legs in between his.

"What the hell are you doing?" I whispered in his ear, my arm wrapping around his shoulder so I was more comfortable.

"Look over at the drinks table." Daniel whispered back, his body tense.

I followed his gaze and instantly understood.

His brother was standing there talking to two blondes, his eyes focused on us.

"So that's why we're staying?" I asked quietly.

"No, I genuinely need to get something from Wallace and cannot do that until he's in a good mood." Daniel told me, his eyes meeting mine. "Hey, just think of this as part of our adventure."

"Yeah so adventurous. We're doing what most public high school students do every weekend." I raised my eyebrows, linking my fingers so that my arms were completely wrapped around my shoulders.

"Save it." Daniel shook his head. "Nope, no negativity tonight, Jordyn Montgomery."

"You can't make me be positive, Daniel Aubrey." I whispered back, my forehead nearly touching his.

"You're doing a great job of pretending to flirt. I'm sure Jackson's glaring daggers into your back right now." Daniel laughed.

I forced a smile on my face.

"I'm good at acting." I shrugged, my stomach plummeting.

And here I was thinking we were actually having a connection...

"So why are you here?" Wallace asked suddenly. "Daniel you told me you were staying home tonight."

"Yeah change of plans." Daniel shrugged, his arms tightening around my waist slightly. "Operation piss off Roger Aubrey is in action right now." Daniel added.
