Lynn was currently at her house with Rachel, Henry in his room playing a video game of some sort. She was working on some work from school that Rachel needed help with, so she decided to help her out.
Though she was helping a very confused Rachel, her mind kept traveling to Chase and how he cornered her in the diner yesterday. She was luckily off today, along with Rachel, but she still felt as tired as she usually did when working.
"No, wouldn't you have the x here instead of next to the three?" Rachel asked, pointing to a pretty complicated math problem. Lynn shook her head and pointed to the three.
"It goes there because the y only takes away the other y, not the x too." Lynn corrected, retracting her finger and patting Rachel's shoulder. "I'm sure you'll be fine for the exam tomorrow."
With a smirk, Lynn scooted off the bed to go check on Henry, listening to a muttering Rachel staring at the problem harder.
Lynn made her way down the small hallway to her brother's room. Knocking and cracking the door open just enough to slide her head through, she peeked at Henry who turned to her. Controller in hand, headphones on ears, and sitting in a comfortable position on the floor Infront of the television, Henry smiled to Lynn.
"You hungry yet, kid-o?" She asked him. Henry shook his head and turned back to the television. Lynn nodded to herself and walked out into the kitchen to get a snack bar.
When she sees her mom sitting in the kitchen chair, she freezes in her spot. Her mom is staring at the table, seeming to not notice her. Lynn curls her fists, ready to protect herself or fight to protect Henry.
"What the heck are you doing here?" Lynn says to her mom. As her mom hears the venom in Lynn's voice, she tenses. Sighing, her mom looks over to Lynn, looking upon her first born. She remembers when Lynn use to give her those cute five-year-old smiles and how, when she was sober, she would do Lynn's hair for school pictures.
Now the alcohol has wiped all of that away.
Tears brimmed her mother's eyes. Her bloodshot eyes. Lynn stared at them for as long as she could before she looked away. The hurt in her mother's look weakened her, something that would ruin her protective walls if she didn't ignore it.
"I would like to see Henry.." Her mother whispered, directing her gaze back to the table.
Lynn shook her head. "You need to leave."
Her mother glared at Lynn now, seeming upset that Lynn disobeyed her mother.
"Lynn, I'm your mother. You do no-"
"Get the heck out of this house, mother." Lynn snared at her, glaring daggers at her mother's face. "You have no right to even think of yourself as such thing. You don't deserve that title!" Lynn shouted.
Rachel soon looked down the hall and then hurried into Henry's room, most likely to keep him contained.
"Lynn, you have no ri-" Her mother started, but Lynn stepped forward so she was face-to-face with her.
"Get out before I-" Lynn started. She was cut off by her mother's words and action, sticking a finger in her face, staring hard into Lynn's eyes.
"Like heck you would call the freaking police!" Her mother yelled. "We both know you don't have the guts! I'm your mother for heaven sakes!"
Lynn looked away and then back to her mother after a small amount of time. "Not anymore." She said with a hard look, making sure that her words were as strong as steel.
Her mother stepped back and then reached for the counter to pick the house phone up.
She forced the phone into Lynn's hands. "Call them then!" She shouted into Lynn's face. "Call them, Lynn!!" Lynn looked down at the phone, her hands shaking.
With a shaky thumb, she typed in the first number, then another. Her mother watched, eyes widening.
"Lynn." Her mother said, making Lynn hesitate to put the last number in. "Stop."
"Then get out, and don't ever come back." Lynn bit out at her.
Her mother slowly took a step back, shaking her head.
"I will see Henry! And you are both my children and will always be whether you like it or not!" Her mother screamed at Lynn, reaching for the door with a single tear sliding down her cheek. When the door slammed, Lynn pressed the erase button on the phone and let it fall to the ground.
When Rachel came out with Henry, hugging Lynn tightly to her, Henry wrapping around her waste, shaking slightly, Lynn felt the slightest bit better.
"You did good." Rachel whispered into Lynn's ear. Lynn nodded into Rachel's shoulder as she held her tears back, remaining strong Infront of Henry as she soothed him.
