"Good evening Professor Williams."
The dark corridor led him to a fire lit room which opened up with a vaulted ceiling.
He continued within, and was struck by the eeriness of its ambience.
" What is this place?" He replied to the disembodied voice. He stopped in the exact middle of the airy room, and looked all around, searching for familiarity.
Upon shelves, and hanging from the ceiling, behind glass, or sitting upon the hard stone floor- was a collection of artifacts.
They were of a peculiar make, and of various materials. In addition, they were apparently very ancient. Some were partially broken, or misshapen, but collectively they all were telling a story. Professor Williams could see the patterns emerging, but not quite seeing what story they were telling. The strange man continued.
"Man, in this world, has a had a complex history, Professor, as I'm sure you are well aware. Throughout his life here on Earth, he has built great civilizations; he has created wondrous things with his skillful hands and ingenuity."
" He has also destroyed those civilizations through greed, and brought down upon himself the wrath of the gods."
"At times he has come close to realizing his full potential, but the gods have always kept him from reaching that potential."
We keep these artifacts as a reminder of that potential.Williams stopped his slow walk and looked up.
" What do you mean by 'The Gods'?"
He asked, puzzled.
"What I mean is, the ascended custodians of this world."
