Gaia tried to speak when she woke up, but it was very difficult. She wasn't sure if anyone would understand her though. Kwame was there.
He had been watching closely for hours to make sure she was still alive and breathing.
Finally, though a whisper, Kwame leaned in closer to hear her words:
"The Voice was first, and then the light appeared, and it was pure."
Something she had learned studying ancient texts.
It looked like Kwame was impressed.
Then he spoke back to her in a very thick accent:
" From this light, came forth the beauty of all pure life, of all pure music, and the purity of the elements.
The Voice was as the purity of a mother's song to her child. "
She was still very weak, but sat up and smiled.
Kwame was in a state of wonder. "These are wise words from such a young creature."
Gaia felt more comfortable now. The shock from the crash was wearing off.
"YOU picked me up and carried me, didn't you?" She whispered.
"Yes. Yes I did."
"Thank you. You're a kind man. You brought life back to me and I am in your service for this."
Kwame looked down at the ground briefly, thinking about his own children.
Sometimes their laughter echoed in his mind, but at other times it was their screams which haunted him.He returned his focus to her.
" I would hope that someone would do the same for my child."
"Where did you come from?"
Gaia's face showed her puzzlement.
"I...". She paused for a few seconds ." ...dont know"
"I can only remember falling, on fire, and then a blackness. A lonely feeling and blackness all around me."
Kwame shook his head. " I'm so sorry for you. Im sure you must have a family who is very worried about you."
" I will make it my duty, my responsibility to return you to them"He had realized she was just as human as his Dogon people.
Sabo arrived at the door of the tent.
"She is awake?"
"Yes, but still very weak Sabo" Said Kwame.
"And she cannot remember what happened, or even who she is"
"We will take care of you child. And every day you will get better, and you will remember everything soon enough. I promise you."
"Let us leave her for a while to rest Chief."
"Get some rest. We will always be nearby if you need anything."She closed her eyes .
Kwame looked down for a moment at the laser pistol. He began to reach for it slowly. Just then, Gaia pulled it in close to her chest.
