As the holidays rolled in, decorating began. Even Yugi's grandpa was in the holiday spirit, but his back decided otherwise. This left the job of stringing lights on the roof to little Yugi, and he wasn't exactly known for his sure feet.
The job was then left to Yami who didn't seem to have a bit of clumsiness in him, which was a total lie.
This was why Yami was on the icy and snowy roof of the game shop, struggling with the tangled lights in the cold. Groaning to himself and muttering curses, he shuffled around with lights trailing behind him. His fingers were numb with cold, and he didn't appreciate the constant sniffling mess he was reduced to. Why did it have to be so cold and snowy?
"Enjoying yourself up there?" Yami looked towards the source of the sound and saw that it was none other than his rival, Seto Kaiba.
"S-sure thing. J-just f-freezing," Yami stuttered out with his chattering teeth. He really didn't want to stutter and give Kaiba something to mock, but it was too damn cold to be outside anyway.
"Don't fall though, I can't have a dead rival."
"Gee thanks. Glad you care."
Yami turned back to the task at hand and shuffled around. He completely forgot that Kaiba was even there, and had assumed he left. He started humming some song Yugi had played for 5 hours straight to get into the "holiday spirit", as he called it. Yami just called it being annoying.
"FA LALALALA LALALA LA!"
Yami jumped in panic as he realized Kaiba had not left, and he had been singing instead of humming, so Kaiba thought it was necessary to bug him with his god awful singing.
"Could. You. Not?" Yami said, making sure to put emphasis on every word.
"Mmm... no. The King of Games should be able to keep his cool no matter what, but I see you've gotten a bit too cool for your own good there."
Yami rolled his eyes and shuffled away, careful to not slip on any ice patches.
Then again, some ice isn't easy to see.
Yami's foot slid on a piece of ice that had blended in with the roof, and he landed flat on his stomach. He groaned as he rolled over to his back, covered in snow.
"Dammit..." he muttered.
"Did you die?"
Yami sighed in utter frustration and continued to lay there. It might be freezing cold, but he was extremely tired.
"You can't sleep in the snow."
"Watch me."
"Yugi you'll die."
"No more stringing lights then."
"Yugi."
"Screw off, Kaiba."
Yami closed his eyes and hoped Kaiba had left or gone inside the game shop instead of standing on the sidewalk to shout at him, and let his mind drift. The snow was pretty soft to be honest, and it wasn't melting and getting him wet due to the extreme cold.
Moments later, he heard a door to the roof opening and closing behind someone, and the crunching of snow as footsteps walked towards him.
"Grandpa I can handle the lights, go back in before your back hurts."
"Yugi, I'm not that old."
Yami's eyes opened to see Kaiba looking down at him, smirking. What evil was he planning?
Kaiba's foot came back and before Yami could get up and move, Kaiba had kicked snow into Yami's eyes.
Yami sat up, angry but smiling slightly at the fight that was about to take place, and began rubbing the snow out of his eyes.
