I woke up the next morning to Kathleen poking my arm. I turned over in my sleeping bag and shoved my face into the pillow. Kathleen grumbled but stopped poking me. She got up and left the room, having been left in peace I made myself more comfortable and continued my slumber. Minutes later, she reentered the room and continued poking me, but to her dismay, I still didn't move. She shifted slightly and groaned as if lifting something heavy. My curiosity got the better of me and I opened my eyes, just as a gallon of freezing water was poured onto my head. I slowly got up, furious, and started chasing Kathleen around the room as she squealed. I kept chasing her until she ran into her dresser, which caused a loud thump to echo through the house. We looked at each other before simultaneously bursting into laughter, within seconds, we were on the floor clinging to each other and continuing with our laughter. Suddenly a boy who looked our age burst through the door holding a baseball bat.

"What happened? I heard a bang. Are you alright?" he said looking around suspiciously, before his gaze landed on me, "Hey, who's that?"

"That is Sarah, the new addition to our family. Sarah this is Shawn."

" Hi." I replied, analyzing him to see if I could trust him or not. He seems trustworthy but I still won't be getting close to anyone till I'm 100% sure.

"Hello. So what happened in here? I thought you were being kidnapped by a pedophile."

"Of course you thought that *cough* idiot *cough* but she was just trying to kill me because I woke her up by dumping water on her head. Then I ran into the dresser. Then because it was so funny, we decided to laugh about it until you so rudely interrupted. So if you would please leave."

"So you poured water on her and she tried to kill you and you're laughing about it?"

"Yes and if you don't leave there is going to be a pen lodged in your neck, that you need to have surgically removed." I said.

"You wouldn't." he replied looking uneasy.

"Wanna try me?"

"You don't even have a pen."

I looked at Kat and she handed me a pen. I looked at Shawn and smirked, then pointed at the door. He smirked at me, as if challenging whether I would do it. I stood and raised my pen. He glanced between my smirking face and the pen, before running out of the room. I places the pen on the dresser and went to the closet locating a towel and starting to dry my hair.

"Is Shawn your brother?" I asked Kat.

"No. Why do you ask?"

"Well he looks nothing like you. Is he your stepbrother or were you adopted?"

"We are both adopted."

"Oh that's cool."

She nodded and I went back to drying my hair. Shawn popped his head in the room and said, "I like you you're cool Sarah."

That was five years ago and the start of a beautiful friendship. We stood by each other through everything, and still do. Nothing could break our friendship. But, one tragic night could've changed that if they knew the truth, but I still haven't told them. It could break our trust. My biggest secret and our saddest day.
