“Come on Ginn, let’s go upstairs.” Being lead upstairs like a child by Liz was very embarrassing. On the other hand, she had no other way of taking me up there. I felt like shit, I hurt Ty and hurt myself. For once in my life I realized I was lying to myself. I never hated Ty nor did I not like him. Slowly he broke down my barrier, it’s still holding strong but Ty is chiseling at my barrier slowly. I guess as an act of defense I forced myself to believe that I hated him.

For the first time I looked at Liz as she carried my hand up the stairs—White Belly length shirt, the kind you would find any girl wearing today, Silver bracelets that made a silent sound. Around her neck was a thick silver chain, on which hung a dark red pendant the size of a baby’s fist. I only had to narrow my eyes to see that it was real, real and precious.

I forced my eyes away from this beautiful gem, and fixed them on Jason, Whom was coming down the stairway the opposite way of us. I could see the color drain from his face as he asked me what was wrong. “Are you okay? What happened? “

Liz responded in as fast tone, “Nate was born. That’s what happened.”

Jason stopped in his tracks. He exhaled a sigh, “What did my bro do this time?”

His words hit me like thunder. Nate and Jason are related? No. It can’t be, Jason is so sweet. There can be no way that he’s related to my monster of an X-Boyfriend Nate?

Liz cocked her head back, her eyes big. “You’re related to that jackass?”

“Unfortunately, yes.”  He took a sip of his drink. “Let’s go in my room and talk about this.”

We were then lead to Jason room. When I put my hand on the doorknob, a jolt of happiness hit me. As if my mind was going crazy just because I touched his doorknob. Does that sound weird? I don’t know what’s happening to me; I feel mixed emotions and can’t make up my mind about anything.

“You gonna go in, or stand there like a block of wood?” Liz said to me with a smile.

“Oh, sorry.” I turned the knob and released it, walking into the room. The smell of cinnamon glazed over my nose as I inhaled the sweet smell. Jason brushed passed me, bumping into my shoulder.

“Sorry.” He smiled and let out a childish laugh. I watched him as he walked over to his desk, closing books and shifting things frantically. He shoved everything away into his desk and turned to us, smiling nervously.

I looked behind me and Liz was standing there, smiling at him. I know that face, she knows exactly what he’s hiding, and she’s going to go blabbing to me later about it.

“So are you two related?” I said the question without even knowing I did.

“Nah, His Mom married my Dad awhile ago. I’d say, 3 months ago.” Jason began scratching his head. “Yeah, he wasn’t the best step brother at first. And to be honest, I hated him for a short while.”

I middle my eyebrows. “Short while?” Liz asked. “I still hate him.” She looked away.

Jason sat down on his chair, “Yeah well he has a reason for acting like a total ass.” He let out a large sigh and continued, “About ten years ago, when Nate was nine years old. His Dad died,. His Dad was diagnosed with Bone cancer.”

Immediately I felt like shit, even though Nate put me through worse than he could ever imagine, He went through much more pain than I could have ever been.

Jason continued, I wanted to cover my ears but continued listening, “Worst thing is that his Mom could have saved him, she could have given him the Bone Marrow he needed in order to live. Instead she watched him wither away, like a flower without soil or water. And Nate watched him too. Slip right through his fingers, and there was nothing Nate could do. When I learned about this my hatred turned into pity, then soon I started to understand him. Nate and I, we get along great now.”

I took a quick glance at Liz, her face was blank. I could no longer read what she is thinking. Maybe she’s starting to forgive him. Unlike me, even though I truly wish I could forgive him, my heart… My heart still says no.

Jason carried on, “he told me about you,” Jason said, “He told me that he had made a giant mistake with someone he loved, and that’s why he was expelled. Nate said he wanted to make up for everything he has done wrong. And I believe him.” Jason laughed, “But knowing Nate, he’s gonna make things worse.”

I held my head down. Even if Nate were truly sorry, what he did to me was unforgivable, and even though his Dad’s story is heartbreaking. That is no reason to act the way he did. At this moment, and for life, Nate is dead to me.

Jason smiled at me, “But I also told Nate, he was gonna have some competition.” He sent me a wink and I blushed like never before. My heart was racing and I had to get out of his room and quick.

Before I could exit someone rushed into the room, so fast that it scared me half to death.

“Jason!” The person was huffing and out of breath. “Your brother… gang… Went after… That kid.”

“What?!” Jason stood up so quickly his chair started to spin. He grabbed the guys shoulder, “What kid?!”

“The kid… The kid he was fighting at the party. T—Ty!” My eyes grew huge and my body went numb.

I pushed Jason out the way and shook the kid’s shoulders. “Which way did they go?!” I grinded my teeth, the veins in my head about to explode from anger.

“They were headed towards Main St.”

Me and Liz jolted out the room, with Jason behind us we exited the party, and made our way towards Main St.

Ty, I’m so sorry, please. Please be okay
