chapter five:late night wondering

"Oh my God mark, what are you doing here?" Asked Matt as he bro hugged him. He really needed his best friend right now. "right after school I came here to look for my dad. My dad.. He... He got bitten. He tried to eat me but to my luck it's a gun store so I just shot him in the head." He said and the sadness in his voice was noticeable. "And after that i stayed here and killed some zombies.". "Do you even know how to shoot?" Asked Matt. "Not in the slightest. But it's not that hard when there's an adrenaline. By the way, matpat, can I talk with you? Alone?" He asked and they went to the other side of the store. "What are you doing with them?" He asked Matt nodding his head slightly to Stephanie's and kylie's direction. "Well, when Stephanie and I we're in detention, we heard Mrs. Drew screaming from outside. When we looked outside a zombie was eating her. We succeeded to escape and we just stuck together. Yesterday we found Kylie at Stephanie's home and now we found you. Look..  I know that you don't want to be with them, but we need you, and you need us." Said Matt. "No. I am not going on with that bitch and her slave." Replied mark. Matpat always knew that mark hated them. They never picked on him, but they did it with matt, and that made him hate them to the core. "Mark, just..." Started matpat say and a sigh followed. "Please, I'm begging you. It was a torture for Me to think that you might be dead or one of them. I need you besides me." He continued and a pleading look was on his face. Mark sigh a heavy sigh and looked at Stephanie's and kylie's direction. They looked at him back with a confused look on both of their faces. "OK I'll come with you. But I need you to promise me, that if they'll hurt you, you'll Tell me right away. Did they said any offensive sayings earlier?" Asked mark. "No. They hadn't. And OK, I'll tell you if something is going on. Now c'mon, we have to take some thing and come back to Stephanie's place." Said matpat and mark and him took amo and a brand new and shiny pistol. They all entered the car and drove back to her house. When they came in the same disgusting Smell was in the air and the sane goey liquid was on the walls. Mark looked around, exploring the new place. The place that only selective people could see. After a very long day of practicing, they finally decided calling it for the night. They all slept in their sleeping bags, or at least tried to.
Morning
Stephanie woke up sooner then the others. From some reason, she felt... Joy. Even with what was happening, she felt happier then she felt in a long time. She rose up and went to the kitchen. She opened the fridge and took out all the stuff she need to make pancakes. As she made the pancakes, the same song was playing in her mind. "I should be over all the butterflies

I'm into you (I'm into you)...". She sang along quietly. The delicious smell was surrounding the kitchen, creating the aroma of a good morning. Back at the living room, Matt woke up with a groan. The hard floor wasn't doing any good to his back. He looked at the others as they slept, but he could notice that Stephanie's sleeping bag was empty. He woke up the others and they went to look for her. As they reached the kitchen they could see her swinging and humming a song. They all sat around the table, saying good morning to her. She turned around and in her hand was a big pile of pancakes on a plate. She put it on the table and sat with the guys. Matt, Kylie and mark switched confused looks by the weird gesture. Stephanie did nothing but look at them with a happy expiration, silently waiting for them to taste the pancakes. After a minute or so, they all ate the tasty panckacks and complementing the chef. The rest of the day went by quite annoying for Kylie,mark and Matt. The way Stephanie could be happy in such harsh time was super irritating. It was now afternoon, and they we're all tierd after their practice. Matpat and mark we're talking about video gaming and how much they will miss it, while Kylie and steph we're hanging out in her room. Steph collapsed on her bed with a happy sigh:"isn't it just an amazing day?" She asked, not quite expecting for An answer."Alright, that's it!" Snapped Kylie. "What's wrong? " asked stephanie. "All day you we're weirdly happy and all when outside there's an f'ing war! What is the matter with you?!" Asked Kylie angrily. "What's the matter with me? What's the metres with me? Oh I will tell you what's the matter with me. I don't know why I was happy all day. And I am well aware to what is happening outside. But the thing is... That I dont want to be sad and close myself up. In this kind of situation, you need to hold on to any experience like this because who knows how many of those left for you. And that's why I did, I held on to it because I'm pretty sure that if I don't hold on to it I will go mad." She said and the joy that she wanted to keep near so bad was about to fade away. Kylie looked down, knowing that she was right. "I'm sorry. I didn't knew you felt like that." She said looking at her sadly. "Oh That's fine, Don't be sad. C'mon, let's dance a little" said stephanie. Kylie was about to protest but couldn't 'cause steph put on her phone their favorite song. A small smile spread on kylie's face as she and steph sang along.

They finished singing with a laugh until someone coughed at the door. They turned around to see both matpat and mark smirking. Both Kylie and stephanie smiled a small smile and blushed.
Night
As kylie and stephanie we're far asleep, Matthew and mark were talking in the kitchen. "I just don't get it. Why would I even like her.I mean, she treated me like crap for the past two years. But on the other hand she did changed." Said matpat. "What do you mean?" Asked mark as he poured him and Matt cups of coffee. "I mean that, she's being nicer, she talk to me and joke with me. There was that night back at my place, where she couldn't fall asleep, so we shared a bed. In the morning I found us actually spooning." Said matpat as he took a big swing of the coffee. "Well now that you've mentioned it, she does act different then before.". "Yeah. And she suddenly look different to. Her hair seem more soft and pretty. Her eyes seem more bright and beautiful, her smile is shining and her laugh is so adorable..." Said matpat as he drifted off to his own mind. Until suddenly, a realization landed onto him. No. But it can't be. I can't have a crush on stephanie cordato.
