Best regards to everyone this 2014. =)

The ding of the elevator signaled my arrival at the penthouse floor of this condominium building. As I stepped off the shaft, the anxiety that threatened to overwhelm me since I arrived a few minutes ago slowly faded and replaced by the budding conviction I felt.

I blew a loud, shaky breath through my mouth, and arranged my appearance, hoping to somehow impress him with my looks.

It’s now or never, Kim.

I huffed, still a little nervous as I fidgeted. I closed my eyes and finally pressed the doorbell. Not a few seconds passed before the door finally opened.

My heart skipped when it was Xian himself who stood holding the door wide open, grinning at me like we were long lost friends.

“Hi,” I whispered, a little self-conscious all of a sudden.

“Hi. Pasok ka.” If he was curious about the reason why I was here, he didn’t show it. He even seemed happy about this visit.

I took a large, deep breath and exhaled, hoping my anxiety would go away. It didn’t. My heart was thudding so loudly against my chest it was all I could hear.

I followed him inside his condominium, which, as expected, boasted of luxury and wealth.

“Sorry ha, kailangan lang talaga kitang kausapin,” I said, breaking the silence that threatened to engulf me.

“Don’t worry about it, Kim. You’re always welcome in my home.”

He led me to a couch in what I assumed was his dining area – the table for eight was a dead giveaway – and motioned for me to sit. I did as he asked and sat down, hoping my nervousness would go away so I could do what I came here to do without any incident.

“Do you want something to drink?” He had this expectant look on his face, which made me nod in acquiesce even though I wasn’t thirsty.

“Okay, sandali lang ha.”

I was left alone as he walked toward a door. It seemed he was the one who would be getting the drink himself. That surprised me. He was one of those people who was used to having someone wait on him hand and foot, and it was something I never thought would change. I strained my neck to see if he had someone with him in the kitchen, but it looked like he was alone.

Baka lumabas lang ang katulong. Baka.

“Okay lang ba sa iyo water or do you like some juice?” He popped his head from the kitchen door, momentarily startling me.

“Water lang, please.”

He disappeared again, making it clear to me he was the one who was getting the water.

I never knew he could live without a maid. He was so dependent on having hired help it seemed weird for me not so see him having one.

Engot ka talaga, Kim. Remember hindi mo na siya kilala.

It was also possible he hadn’t change at all. It didn’t necessarily mean that I hadn’t seen one he didn’t have one.

Assuming ka talaga,

“Here you go.” He breezed out of the kitchen to put an empty glass and a bottle of water on the table.

“Thank you.”
