As the Nevis native stepped into the large Virginian estate she felt uncomfortable, as if she wasn't fit to live here, or even be inside. Everything was near and orderly but in a homely manner. Alex wanted to run, she wanted to go back to the cold winter streets of New York, or even the balmy, humid dirt roads of her home town in the Caribbean, all she knew was she wanted to be somewhere she was comfortable.

'You don't deserve this, you're nothing but a street rat.' A rather  familiar voice sneered in her head. Her shoulders sagged.

"they must be rich, hooray." Her voice was flat and quiet.

"Mon Ami! Where are you?!" Lafayette called through-out the corridors.

Alex, surprisingly, wasn't in much of a talking mood. She wandered the corridors as well, until burrowing into a little reading nook she had found behind a (not so well) hidden door. As footsteps sounded outside the door and lafayette's voice grew in volume she involuntarily shivered, the short girl backed up farther into the reading nook.

"I just wanna be left alone, it's too big, it's all too big." She muttered under her breath.

"Alexandria? Where are you?" George's voice now added to a certain Frenchman's.

"Shit, he'll be upset I went off without permission. No way I'm going anywhere now." She took out her notebook.

Dearest mother of mine,

I have been placed with a family in Virginia, identified as the Washingtons. They have a child around my age, Lafayette I believe their name was. But never mind that, I'm afraid I have already upset them. Mama what if they use a belt, or something worse? I am currently hiding out in a small reading nook, the man, George, and his child Lafayette are looking for me. I'm worried I won't be able to keep myself from mouthing off, I've already pissed them off I'd rather not make it worse. God I wish you were here mama, I miss you dearly. I can't even visit your grave, for it is all the way back in Nevis. Perhaps you have met with papa again, I sincerely hope you have, you were always happiest whilst he was around. I've been raising money for the hurricane relief fund mama, I've been sending it to the mayor. He said that he was extremely proud that I didn't forget where I had came from, in all honesty mama, how could I? After everything that happened in Nevis how. Could I forget about it? More importantly, after what the citizens did for me by raising the money, how could I not do the same for them? I wrote him a letter detailing every reason I frequently donated, he wrote back explaining how touched he was and that Nevis would always be a safe haven for me to retreat to. Quite frankly, I want to go back. I don't like it here, in America. It's formal, impersonal, and unfamiliar. I wish to retreat to my "safe haven", hopefully Jamie is okay. I haven't heard from her, she used to write me every week, but in the past month I haven't gotten a single letter. I will write her soon in hope to find my dearest sister in good health. My position doesn't exactly allow me to have the leisure of calling her home, and unfortunately the mail system is plenty faulty. You told me to become well known, to make a difference. I made an oath, I swore to you I would. My situation seems bleak and helpless as of right now but I swear, on everything I have mama, I will not fail you. I will do what it takes to survive, to thrive!

Yours Truly,
Alexandria Hamilton.

The girl flipped through her notebook, seeing tens of hundreds of letters to her deceased mother. A saddened sigh escaped her lips as the door creaked open,

"Alexandria?" A smooth voice called out to her.

George reached out a hand towards her, frowning as he saw her flinch back it what seemed to be fear.

"I-I, I apologise sir, I should not have walked off without your explicit permission." Alexandria shrunk in on herself, hoping her apology was enough to spare her a beating.

George's face softened, "Alexandria, I'm not angry. You gave me a fright, I was very worried about you."

The islander looked up, a mixture of elation and confusion showing on her face. "You're......not mad?"
