The girl had fallen into a fitful sleep, notebook open on her lap, pen still in hand. She snored softly as nightmares, memories of a terrible storm seeped into her mind."Hello? Hello?!" A voice stirred her from her slumber.
Alex jumped. "Yes?! Who are you?"
The boy, who looked to be around her age, gave a polite smile. "Pardon me, I'm Aaron burr miss. I read your essay, I must say, your skill with a pen is undeniable."
She blushed softly. "Many thanks kind sir, but might I inquire as to why you're here in the first place?"
Aaron nodded slightly, "well I was out for a walk and I saw you. Why were you sleeping under a bridge?"
Hamilton frowned, "it was safer than an alleyway."
The boy frowned down at Alex, "I don't mean to pry but do you not have a home?"
She sighed, "the people back in Nevis could only raise enough for the boat trip. I have no money to get a place to live."
"Ah you're not from here, I see. Well, my father knew a social worker, perhaps I could get you in the system. I'm assuming your parents did not make the trip with you?"
The Caribbean girl shook her head, "no they didn't I'm afraid. I have all of my important paperwork though, birth certificate and the like, well at least all of it that survived the hurricane."
Aaron took note of her face when she brought up the storm and took note not to bring up the issue, lest he upset her in someway.
He helped her stand up, "you should enroll in the high school, it'd be a shame to let your writing skills waste away." Alex nodded, half listening, she wanted to know where she was being taken.
~time skip brought by slight Hamburr~
Twenty minutes later they had arrived on the doorstep of a social services building. The seventeen year old girl fidgeted nervously.
"Can I see your official papers Alexandria?"
She looked at Aaron cautiously. "How do you know my name?"
"It was written on the top of your essay about St. Kitts and Nevis."
Alex relaxed slightly and dug into her rucksack, pulling out a few neatly folded papers. She didn't have any immigrant papers, but since St. Kitts and Nevis were U.S territory she had a feeling it'd be okay. Aaron took the papers and walked into the building, beckoning Alex to follow him.
~six month time skip, brought by false U.S territories!~
Alex had been 'in the system' for six months, in that time she sneaked away from her foster home in an effort to stay by the water in each placement she had been to. This would be her ninth home. She had learned the hard way that foster families weren't good, at all. She learned not to share her opinion, or voice her thoughts. She was dreading her new placement.
"Alexandria, you'll be staying with the Washingtons, please don't mess this up." Her case worker, Samuel Seabury, sighed.
A/N: hey guys gals and nonbinary pals! I know this was shorter than normal but I thought it would be a good place to end the chapter. Oh and Nevis and St. Kitts are no longer a US territory it was just convenient for the story. I still need to know whether this should be Hamilton x Burr or Hamilton x Jefferson! Please comment with who you'd rather Alex end up with. If you have a different idea of who she should end up with just tell me, like lams or someone. I'm open to her being with anyone(as long as it's a guy. Trying to practice writing hetro stuff. It can be a genderbent as well. Like Elijah Schuyler!) Until next time!
