Usnavi ran from behind the counter, immediately hugged the tiny girl tightly. "¡Tú en casa! ¡Tú en casa! Oh, Dios mío, tenemos que ir a decirle a todos!"
Alex chuckled, "Navi calm down, I just got here, no need to kill me already."
Usnavi nodded and smiled apologetically. "Sorry, I just got really excited."
"It's okay."
"So what do you want to do to let everyone know you're home Little Lexi?"
She smirked, "do you still have those fireworks in the back?"
He returned her smirk. "You bet your ass I do."
The small girl grinned and ran to the back room, searching for a few minutes before reappearing with a box of fireworks, illegal fireworks mind you, but......no one needed to know that. The islander ran out, Usnavi following close behind. She set everything thing up and held out her hand to the older teen. He gladly handed her a matchbook and stood back a bit. As soon as the first firework went off everyone came running out. Camila Rosario was the first to be seen, holding a rolling pin in one hand while the other rested on her hip.
"USNAVI WHAT DID I TELL YOU ABOUT THOSE FIREWORKS?!"
The boy paled, "shit, Tía Camila is gonna kill us, death by rollin' pin Lex."
Alex stood straight as an arrow, a look of pure fear on her face. She hadn't thought about the consequences of lighting the fireworks, only that they would make a great grand entrance. Camila was definitely not someone you wanted to upset.
The woman caught sight of Alexandria and seemed to relax. "ALEXANDRIA ESTÁ AQUÍ! ¡NUESTRA NENA ESTÁ DETRÁS!" She ran up to her, swallowing the girl in a bone crushing hug.
Alex winced softly but soon hugged back. "Hola Tía Camila! I missed you!"
"Oh baby we missed you too! It's been too long!"
Benny, Nina, Vanessa, Sonny, and Tío Kevin soon made their way to the scene, each of them having their own heartfelt reunions with Alex. Meanwhile from another part of the city George and Martha spotted the fireworks and heard the shouting. They eagerly made their way to where they had heard the yelling. Martha pulled her husband along, an excited smile illuminating her features. George couldn't help but watch her fondly, getting lost in her eyes which shone bright with hope and determination. He sighed contently, falling in love with this majestic woman all over again. As she led him through the crowded streets of New York he heard various loud people, all shouting in what seemed to be Spanish. One of them sounded distinctly like Alex, which he thought to be impossible, seeing as Alex barely spoke above a murmur is the three months he had known her. They rounded the corner and came upon a neighbourhood named Washington Heights.
Martha gasped softly, "look Georgie, we found her." She pointed to Alex, standing amongst the rest other the people, chatting excitedly, words flowing from her lips like water in a stream. She had a relaxed look about her as her hands flew about to add to whatever story she was telling. George smiled, he had never seen her so comfortable. His heart soon sank as he realised they would have to take her away from these people, the people she seemed less guarded around, more open with.
"Martha, how are we going to make her leave them?"
She raised a brow, "what do you mean George?"
"Look at her, she's so happy, she was never like this back in Virginia."
Martha swallowed thickly, now understanding the gravity of the choice they had to make. She worried the bottom of her shirt, unsure of what to say.
Alex felt a nagging feeling that she should turn around, that she needed to look behind her, and so she did, only to see George and Martha Washington there, watching her. She then realised she was screwed. The girl bit down on her bottom lip harshly enough to draw blood as her entire body started to tremble faintly.
"Lex? You okay?" Benny asked, a concerned frown showing on his face.
"Estoy en problemas. Me van a pegar por correr, por favor, no dejes que me peguen." she let out a pitiful whimper.
"Alex, I don't speak Spanish." Benny reminded her, though he didn't have to. Everyone around her understood what she had said (except poor Benny) and were now glaring at the Washingtons.
Martha and George gulped before taking a few steps towards them. Usnavi was the first to break the silence.
"Who the hell are you?!" The teen's harsh tone startled the two adults.
"We are Alexandria's foster parents. I'm George Washington."
"And I'm Martha Washington."
Usnavi grimaced, "you're her foster parents?"
"That we are."
Alex hid behind Benny, murmuring fearfully in Spanish.
"Why is she terrified of you? What did you do to our little Lexi?" Usnavi continued to interrogate them, showing no lack of intimidation. He got all up in George's face, still glaring.
A/N: hey guys gals and nonbinary pals! Here's the next chapter! Usnavi's getting all protective of Alex. All I can imagine is short little Usnavi standing on his tip-toes to get all up in 6'2" Washington's face, I'm literally dying🤣😂
