Chapter Two:  “Maxwell”

After I finished up my homework - finally! - I looked at the clock and saw that it was already after ten at night.

Already?  Damn, time sure does fly by pretty fast.  I hope it’s not too late to take a shower, I thought, getting up, and walking out of my room.  I grabbed a towel out of the hall closet as I made my way to the living room. My nana was sitting in her chair, still awake and watching some classical movie.

“Hey, I’m gonna go take a shower, okay?”

She paused the TV for a moment, so she could talk to me.  “Okay.  Did you finish up your homework?”  I let out a large sigh and nodded.

“Yes, it’s all done.”

“Are you lying to me?”

“What?  Me?  Never!”

She rolled her eyes at me.

I laughed a little. “Yes Nana, I did finish up my homework.” I said truthfully.

“Alright, go take your shower then, and get ready for bed.  And don’t forget to set your alarm for five thirty; I don’t want the same thing that happened today, to happen again tomorrow.” I was about to reply, when a thought crossed my mind.  I smiled one of my ‘so-called’ evil smiles.

“Actually, Nana, if you don’t mind, I think I’ll get a ride from Marry instead.”

“Marry?  Oh yeah, I forgot she has a car.  Well, alright then.  But still, set your alarm for five thirty though.”

“I know, I know ...” I said, walking out of the room, and went to take my shower.

Once I got out, I rushed to my room and plopped onto my bed.  Still wearing nothing but a towel, I grabbed the phone sitting on the nightstand right by my bed, and called up a certain someone, who I knew for a fact, was still up.

“Hello?”  Marry answered.

“Hey, whatcha doing?”

“Well, I was working on one of my stories.  Now I’m talking to you.”

“That sounds cool.  Especially that last part, I think that’s awesome!”

“Ha-ha-ha.  Anyways, what’re you calling me for at eleven o’clock at night anyway?”

“Oh that. Well, because I’ve decided to give you, Marianne Hokinson, the honors of escorting the great Sarah Pearce to school tomorrow!  Doesn’t that sound like fun?”

“Okay, I guess I could do that.”

“That’s it?  That’s your answer?  How boring! Ahh!  Whatever!  Be down here at my house at six fifty tomorrow morning, okay?”

“Okay.”

“Grrr!  You’re so boring!  I don’t know why I even try!”

“Neither do the rest of us.”

“Aww, that hurt.  Anyways, I’d better go.  My nana’s gonna get mad at me if I don’t go to bed soon.  Night-night!”

“Goodnight.”

I let out a sigh, and then hung up.

The next day, I found myself walking down to Marry’s to get a ride.  Due to the fact that she, for some reason, wasn’t here yet, and wasn’t even answering her damned phone!

Damn her, I told her to be down here at six fifty!  I even called her twice more last night, and texted her over five times today to remind her!  Well, all I have to say is that she had better have a good reason as to why she didn’t show up! I thought to myself, marching my way down to Marry’s house.
