Chapter Eight:  “A Failed Attempt, and a Lost Chance.”

Jay’s P.O.V.

***Flashback*** (Where it cut off in chapter six)

“Do you like Sarah?”

I blushed, and quickly looked over at her.  “W-what?!  W-what kind of question is that?   Of course I like Sarah, she’s like one of my best friends, I-I thought you knew that already?”

“Hmm … yeah, I knew that.  We all like her like that Jay.  I think you’re either missing my point, or you’re purposely avoiding it … and doing a horrible job of it at that.”

“I-I guess I’m missing your point then.  W-what is your p-point?”  I asked nervously, and made one of the dumbest mistakes in all of history by letting out a nervous chuckle.

She gave me a “yeah right” look.  “Alright, you can give it up now Jayden.  You and I both know what the point is.  Do you like Sarah?  As … more than a friend?”

My blush deepened, and I looked downward, now coming to a stop.

Marry stopped walking as well, and stood right next to me.  “Jay?  You gonna answer my question, or not?”

Dammit!  I’m cornered … she obviously knows something’s up.  What am I gonna do?

“Well?  Any day now …?”

I have one of two options here … either tell her the truth … or …

I looked up at her and smiled.

She smiled back, and right when she was opening her mouth to speak, before she could get even a word out, I ran off.

Ran fast, and ran far, far away from her.

“HEY!  THAT WAS MEAN JAY!”  I heard her shout at me from the top of her lungs.

Well, mean or not, I had to do it.  I’m sorry Marry, it’s not that I don’t trust you … it’s just that … I don’t want to take any chances with that particular subject … just yet.

Once I was sure I was far enough away from her, I stopped running.  I then grabbed onto my stomach, and tried to regain control of my breathing.

I chuckled slightly.

If Marry already knows about it, then I’m sure the rest of them do too.

Well, maybe not Sarah.  At least, I hope she doesn’t know yet.

I let out a large sigh.  I then reached up and ran a hand through my hair as I looked up at the sky.

Well … if she doesn’t yet … then I really don’t want her finding out through anyone but … me.  I-I guess I really should stop with all this secrecy crap.

I smiled, and got a tighter grip on my backpack.

I knew what I was going to do … and I wasn’t going to allow myself to back out of it this time.

***End of Flashback*** (where the last chapter left off)

“H-hey … um, Sarah … I need to talk to you about something … It’s kind of important.”
