Chapter 3
Ava
Austin and I are in the park. I'm screaming, he's pushing me way to high on the swings. His laughter booms through the playground almost just as loud as my screams. Then he walks around and abruptly stops me, trying to hold back laughter. "Why did you do that?!" I yell. "Don't tell me you didn't love being up that high" he says with a smirk. I give him a disgusted look and try to get off the swing. "C'mon you know I was just playing." He tries to kiss me but I turn my head away. "Pleeeeeeease look at me." I slowly turn my head to stare into his shimmering eyes full of regret. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you. I loooooove you." He puts extra emphasis on the love and he gives me those puppy dog eyes. I can't hold out anymore, I smile and he gives me a quick peck on the lips. In one motion he lifts me off of the swing set and carries me towards the car. "So where to next sunshine?" He smiles wide putting his white teeth on full display.
I wake up covered in sweat and panting. I look around the room and remember my reality, he's gone, my boyfriend is gone and today I have to go school without him. Lord say a prayer for me.
I walk through the hallway alone. It's funny I'm getting more attention from people today then I ever did when people hated the fact that Austin and I were together. I'm so annoyed. Random people who I haven't talked to since freshman year have been coming up to me and telling me how sorry they are for my loss, I just say a quiet thank you and keep walking. The bell for 6th period lunch finally rings and I'm the first one out of the classroom door. I walk slow back to my locker and put my things away and listen to the conversations around me. By the time the bell rings again the hallway is all cleared out and I walk towards the exit. I'm almost at the door when I feel a hard push from behind which sends me slamming into a locker. "Who the fu?!" I scream in anger. "You stupid whore, you lost your boyfriend so you steal mine?!" It's a girl, her voice is overly accusing. The second I hear it I regret lingering by my locker for so long. "Tinashe? What the hell is wrong with you?! I didn't STEAL anyone! Sean chooses who he dates not me." "Look bitch don't act all innocent, I know you're the reason he broke up with me and I know that you've wanted him for years now. You're and idiot if you think I'm just gonna let you take him like that." "I don't want Sean! I don't know if you heard but I just lost the love of my life in a car accident and here you are a week and a half later harassing me about my best friend! Have you no shame?" She scoffs "Oh please nobody cares about how 'heartbroken' you are, we all know that you're just a slut that Austin felt sorry for and kept around so he could get some easy ass when he wants." That pushed me over the edge. Everything happened so fast I'm not even sure it happened. I charged Tinashe and started pounding her fast with both fists, letting out all my rage on her pretty preppy face. She's screaming, really loud and that's when a teacher bursts into the hallway and tries to pull me off of her, but I'm not going. It took three teachers and a security guard to keep my from beating the life out of that wench.
The principal sits across from me in the office just staring at me. "So?" I say impatiently. "Look Ava I know you're going through a rough time right now but that's no reason to break someone's face." "Are you kidding me?! She tried to attack me!" "Look Ava I'm sorry but I'm going to have to suspend you." "How long?" "Two weeks." "Two weeks?! Are you serious?" "You're lucky if that girl doesn't press charges against you!" I stand up and walk out of the office. I can hear principal Willis calling after me but I don't stop.
Sean
I wait outside in the parking lot for Ava to come out. When I finally see her I run up to her "What the hell Ava? You're the talk of the school!" That came off more hostile than it was supposed to. "Hey it's your crazy ex that got me here! She attacked me in the hallway said I tried to steal you and then rubbed Austin's death in my face!" She spit back at me. "Really Ava, I know Tinashes mean but she's not that mean!" "Wait, you don't believe me?" Her voice full of hurt "Look Ava I know Tinashe and I know she wouldn't do anything like that. Now I don't know what actually happened but-" I'm cut off by the sound of her converse stomping away. "Ava wait up!" She stops, turns around, gives me the finger and walks again. "I better let her cool off" I say to no one.
