{4} Amateur Detectives

"What do you think, Mr. Finn?" Zack asked. I promised Summer I wouldn't tell anyone else about her crush on Freddy. I told Summer her secret was safe with me. I couldn't just tell Zack and Lawrence. If I did, Summer might never have trusted me ever again. But...

I couldn't stand looking at Summer like that. She looked so depressed. I'm sure she's sad that Freddy's with Kale, but there must be another reason as well.

"Sum, I promised I wouldn't tell anyone and I won't. But if it gets too bad, Zack and Lawrence deserve to know," I thought.

"I mean yeah. We don't know for sure, but it could have something to do with her," I responded. "We should investigate, spy on them!" Lawrence suggested. "Great idea!" Zack agreed. I gave them an awkward smile which they didn't notice. To be completely honest, I didn't sign up to spy on Summer and Tomika.

"Hey, Freddy's the one who noticed the way Sum is acting, why don't we ask him to help too?" Lawrence proposed. "No!" I yelled almost instantaneously. Zack and Lawrence glanced at me weirdly. "Why not?" Zack asked.

"Because.. well," I hesitated. "He must be..umm hungry! Yeah." I reckoned. "You know, he needs to practice and stuff like that." I clarified. "Besides, you know, we're speculating about his girlfriend, I'm sure he wouldn't want in on this," I lied. I couldn't let Freddy find out too about Summer's crush on him.

Not yet.

Not while he's still dating that Kale girl.

Why?

It'd jeopardize and ruin their friendship if Freddy were to find out about Summer's secret crush and admiration on him while he's dating another girl.

I couldn't let Summer's heart break again.

Man, that was deep.

"Eh, I mean, I guess so." Zack said, shrugging.

"Well, we'll put our plan in action after school. Till then, be ready," Lawrence stated.

After school was finished, Lawrence, Zack and I met up in front of Zack's locker. I felt really weird and awkward.

You know.

Seeing as I was a teacher and I was hanging out with my students, to spy on another student who's depressed about her love life.

Yeah.

'Cause that was totally normal.
Not.

But nonetheless, this could've  potentially helped Summer. So I did it anyway. Zack looked around the corridors. "There!" he whisper-shouted. Pointing to Summer and Tomika walking on the other side.

We followed the two of them to a nearby cafe where they sat down. I was about to go inside, but Lawrence stopped me. "Don't! They'll recognize us!" Lawrence warned. "We need a a disguise,"

"No, no, no! I am not wearing this!" I complained, holding a suit in my hands. "Oh come on, Mr. Finn," Zack protested. "It's cheap! And it's farthest from what you would wear on a daily basis,"

"Exactly!" I pointed out. "Point taken, I'm not wearing this,"

"I can't believe you actually got me to wear it," I sulked. Zack had rewarded me $50 for the plan. "Hey, not our fault  you're a money digger," Lawrence shrugged.

"Am not!" I denied. "Are too," he argued.

"Okay, before this gets any further, can we just focus on the plan, please?" Zack questioned, trying to stop our bickering. We both nodded in agreement.

We entered the cafe in our disguises. Lawrence was dressed as a semi-professional teenage violinist.

Zack as a teenage rebel.

And me, well.. I was disguised as a clueless business man.

What an odd group of friends.

We snatched a table close by to Summer and Tomika who sat next to the window. "Alright, here we go."

Zack's POV

"It's okay Summer. We just have to be patient," I could hear Tomika assure Summer. "It's just that, I don't know. It really upsets me," Summer muttered. "I know, I know it does," Tomika paused. "well, I know he does,"

He? Who's he?

This is exactly what we had been looking for. It was a boy. Summer had been upset about a boy. Possibly her crush.

"Dude, It's a guy," I murmured. "Summer's upset about a guy,"

Lawrence nodded. "Who though?" I shook my head. Indicating that I didn't know.

"..... just really broke my heart!" Summer whisper-yelled. "Who? I couldn't hear her," I asked. "Neither could we," Mr. Finn and Lawrence said.

I decided to walk closer. Pretending to be an innocent bystander passing by. But unfortunately, I slipped and fell.

Right in front of them.

"Oh my god, are you okay?" Summer asked. "Here, let me help you," Tomika said, helping me up. "Uh, yes, yes, thank you," I croaked.

Summer looked confused. "Wait..." She trailed off.

Oh no.

"Zack?"

Oh oh. Looks like Zack got caught :/ 

Anyways, I'm so happy that you guys are enjoying my fan fiction. Thank you for the lovely comments. I woke up to them this morning and it was a great start to my day. Where I live, It's monday afternoon. And fortunately, they let us out of school early today!! Yay! So I had time to write.
