Friday.
God help me.
Friday afternoon.
God, please help me.
Ash and Iris were already standing in my room, looking through my closet with me. We were waiting for Brooke to get out of soccer practice.
"Is this really all your clothes, Alex?" Ash asks. I nod slightly, a bit embarrassed. Did I not have enough?
They think you're poor. You might as well be. Your parents have money but when was the last time they seemed like they cared what you wore?
Iris and Ash look at each other and laugh. "What?" I ask. "It's... all black," Iris says. "No, there are these two blue shirts," Ash adds. I roll my eyes. "How else am I gonna be a good goth?"
"Hello!" Brooke yells as she runs into my room. "What's up, A?" I say.
"Just here to help you pick out something to impress all Blaze's friends. I just still can't believe you two are together."
"Um, excuse me? And why not?"
"I don't know. You're goth, he's a jock, you don't have a lot in common. He's a trouble maker."
Ash and Iris nod, agreeing. "He's not everything you think he is. Get him out of school and away from his friends and he's great. He's really sweet and sensitive and... caring, believe it or not."
"Well, I just don't want to see him hurt you. If he hurts you I'll have to poke him with a pencil." Iris says.
"I actually don't think he will. I mean, I always feel like people are going to hurt me and I'm just being a dreamer. I think he will, I just really, really hope he won't."
"Ha, found one!" Ash says, throwing a shirt on my bed. I look at her like she's crazy. She is if she thinks I'm wearing what she picked. "Ash.... no." I shake my head. "Why not? It's cute."
"For a slut." Brooke says, apparently offending Ash. "Try it on, Al."
"Fine..." I mutter, going to my bathroom. It was a black see-through tank top with white lace on the collar, arms, and bottom. Right down the middle, where it buttoned, there was lace as well. Ash had given me a black spaghetti strap reverse corset I'd bought in Pigeon Forge with my grandparents a couple years ago. I hadn't grown much so it all still fit. The corset had gray jewels along the sides of the corset strings. I felt so different. I'd never dressed like this out before.
I walked back out and into my room to get opinions from my friends.
"Oh my gosh!" Iris says.
"Wear that, wear that, wear that." Brooke adds.
Ash sits back, happy that she had picked it out. "Blue or black skinny jeans?" I ask.
"I've got that covered," Iris says. She pulled a pair of jeans out from my closet. They were black and white checkered on the front and solid black in the back.
It was 7:56 when I finished up my makeup and hair. "Should we go ahead and go?" I ask, still nervous.
"Wait until about 8:30," Brooke says, looking at her phone.
"Do I look like I can wait that long?!"
They all laugh. "How about we go get ice cream and swing by at 8:15?"
I jump up and grab my bag, along with the note I was going to give Blaze. "Yes, let's do that, come on guys."
They all sigh and get up, following me out.
