PLEASE READ. Okay guys so I've noticed there are a bunch of people who are enjoying this story and I feel a bit bad for just cutting it off... But, there will be a new story up soon and I think you'll like it as well. So, here is one last bit of a chapter for a while. Ill update on and off but it'll be irregular. Sorry guys. Thank you so much for reading and voting and everything. It means a ton. So thanks again guys and I really hope you like the new story I'm starting.
Tears threatened to escape my eyes. My dad was so sweet. No one ever made me feel as special and loved as he did.
I loved the feeling of his protective arm over my shoulders, making me feel safe, but the moment of comfort and security was short lived.
The phone rang. His military phone, to be exact, rang.
I dreaded every second, every beep that passed. With every second my anxiety built that his sergeant would call him back to that God forsaken war our country was forced to fight. It made me bitter to think of all the innocent soldiers, our men, that died on the field. Fathers, taken from their children, sons, taken from their mothers, husbands from their wives. It just wasn't fair.
His arm left mine and a new weight replaced the one he had taken. I listened as he picked up the phone and I tried to hear the other line.
Ash and Iris entered the room as soon as he picked up the phone. They both stopped walking and tiptoed as quietly as possible over to me.
"Look, just..." I heard from the other line.
"Really?" Dad said a little too happily. He cleared his throat.
"Oh, yes, Sir. Thank you, Sir." Dad's voice was lower this time.
He hung the phone up and turned to me, grabbing my shoulders a little too rough and pulling me into his chest. I breathed in the scent of lemon and sage that covered everything associated with him. He picked my feet up from the ground and spun my entire body around like they do in movies.
"What's going on? If I can ask," Blaze says uncertainly.
"I don't have to go back! Not for three months!" Dad exclaimed and my eyes started to water. I finally get my dad back.
"Does that mean I get to stay over here until school ends?" I ask hopefully.
"You, the girls, whatever or however long you want." Dad's voice got softer and gentler. I smiled and looked at Blaze.
"He can only be here when I can see him." Dad growled playfully. I laughed and rolled my eyes.
"I mean it!" He raised his eyebrows and pointed a finger at me.
"Shut up, Dad. Stop being weird," I stick my tongue out at him and run to the kitchen.
I grab a bite to eat and as I'm going back to the living room I
hear them talking about Brooke.
I still feel like a piece of me is missing without her here. It's harder adjusting than I thought it'd be.
Brooke was still in the hospital, Wendy was still a terrible mother, I still had bandages around my wrists.
Maybe things were still going wrong.
But Dad's here, and Blaze is mine.
For now, that's all Ill really need.
Maybe Ill find my sanity.
