I guess I should have seen this coming. People like Neal never really change, I'm just glad I could see it coming this time. I was able to leave this time. This time I didn't end up as badly hurt even though I did think it was gonna be me and him forever. I am just driving not really having a destination in mind.
I see a sign listing the nearby towns and realize I should probably stop for the night. The nearest town is Story Brooke. I laugh slightly to myself at how similar it sounds to Story Book. Maybe it should be a bit more than a one night stop depending on if there is something that would cause me to stay. I pull off the freeway and into the town. I spot an inn and pull up to it. Sure it looks not quite so nice as some places I've stayed but I'm noticing that this is a small town which I think I would be okay with. I need a new start, a new life, a reboot.
I walk in the door to the lobby of the inn and smile at the girl who looks to be younger than I am. She has a big smile on her face as she greets me, "Hey there. I'm Ruby, looking for a room?"
"Yes actually but first what does a night here typically go for?" I ask as I pull my wallet out of my pocket. As I open the wallet someone steps behind me and wraps an arm around me. "Who-" I start as I turn and see someone who carries herself as though she is someone important.
"Sorry Miss but I'm not one for handshakes." She says with a smirk playing at her face. She had the face of someone who had been through so much and yet had the potential to be someone kind, soft, and loveable.
"Swan. Emma Swan. I'm more one for handshakes." I say as I move out of her arm and hold out a hand for her to shake. The woman raises a brow before looking toward the girl who said her name was Ruby.
"Give her my room. I won't be needing it anyway. We need to be nice to our new guest." She says giving me the eye scan. I turn away from the woman and back toward Ruby.
"Yes of course Mayor Mills. That will end up being $287 a night." She says and I look down at my wallet. I sigh and take out a piece of plastic.
"Ruby, you and I both know that is not reasonable." The woman that Ruby called Mayor says and looks me over again. "I'll pay my normal fare so long as she's okay with visits." She says to me with a wink. I put the plastic back in my wallet and raise an eyebrow.
"Well what are you gonna do when I leave?" I say not realizing that it could have come off as flirting.
"If I have any say in it you'll be leaving for my home." She says and locks her lip. I know a flirt when i see one but the jokes on her since I'm not gay.
"I'm not a maid, wouldn't be in your home." I say with a wink as I take the key from Ruby. "I don't believe you ever told me your name?" I say before heading upstairs.
"I'm Mayor Mills, but you can call me Regina."
