Chapter 9

Regina and I had just finished dinner and we were just sitting chatting. Nothing too deep and emotional just basic getting to know you things, favorite color, zodiac sign, dreams and aspirations, that kind of stuff. She looks up at me and I smile at her. I feel like we've become friends after today. She looked me in the eye and sighed.

"How long are you planning on staying?" She asked taking a sip of her water. I pondered for a second realizing that I wasn't exactly sure.

"Well I mean if I find a job or something I might stay. Though I would need my own place I'm not staying at Granny's forever." I said with a laugh. She nodded and looked as though she was pondering something.

"So you like it here in Storybrooke?" She says with a bit of a smile coming onto her face. I just nod my head yes. She then smirks. "May I ask why?" She says and I shrug.

"I've never been in a town that seems so much like a family. It seems like if everyone wanted to they could find their place and be happy here. I don't know I've only been her a full day." I say and then I hear a knock at the door. She looks at the clock and then looks at me. "Want me to go get it?" I say and stand placing my napkin on the table. She is wide eyed and looks like she's not sure of what to do, so I get up and sweet the door.

"Hello." I hear a small young boy say and then I see the person who is dropping the child off. That must be Daniel. I look at the kid and feel my face fall. He looks like Neal, has his eyes. I quickly snap out of it.

"Oh! You must be Henry. Hi, I'm your mom's friend Emma." I said and held out a hand for the kid to shake. The kid takes it and smiles at me.

"I know exactly who you are." He says and pats this storybook in his arm. I look up at the man dropping him off.

"Where's Regina?" He asks and right then I hear her footsteps coming quickly.

"Around the corner should be here any second." I say and then she places a hand on my shoulder. Henry's face falls at the sight of her and I can tell a perplexed expression crosses my face because if it.

"Daniel." She says with distaste in her voice. She then turns to me and smiles again. "Can you take Henry inside? I need to talk to Daniel." She says and I nod, gesturing for the kid to follow me. We reach the lounge.

"Why are you friends with the Evil Queen?" He whispered to me. I raised an eyebrow at him.

"What do you mean?" I asked him and he flipped open his book. The picture of the evil Queen looked identical to Regina.

"See. You need to stay away from her for your own safety." He whispered and then Regina walked over. He quickly shut his book before she could see it.

"Henry want to take your things up to your room?" She asked and I could tell she was upset. Probably because of something Daniel said. The kid nodded and ran upstairs. She looked at me and gave a a completely fake smile. I just walked over and hugged her. As I hugged her I felt a desire spark and I wasn't sure why.

"Hey, what's wrong?" I whispered into her hair. She just shook her head in my shoulder. Before I really thought about it I pulled out of the hug and kissed her. I didn't pull away once I realized what I was doing, I just wrapped my arms loosely around her waist. It was soft and sweet. She felt nice against my lips, maybe I could have been into it last night. Hell I was into it right now. When I pulled away she looked up at me with wide eyes.

"Miss Swan-" She said but I let go of her and grabbed my jacket. I couldn't be attracted to her. "Wait where are you going?" She asked and I looked her over.

"I really should be headed back now. It's getting late, besides I need to start job hunting if I'm gonna stay." I said and walked out. I needed to keep distance between myself and her. I couldn't be going around and forming attachments to people especially not when I am probably going to have to leave almost as quickly as I came. Nobody would hire an ex-convict degree or not.
