Chapter 8: Mountain Glenn Part 2

P.O.V. Sapphire

While all of us were fighting of the pack of Beowulves I saw Oobleck going over to Annabelle and Jade and Annabelle. Once he was done with whatever he needed to talk about I saw him coming over to me. I killed all the Beowulves that were after me and waited for him.

Oobleck: Ah Mr. Wave glad to see you're all done here. Now, I have something I wish to ask you.

Sapphire: ....

Oobleck: I understand you don't talk much while on missions and that it's just part of your serious nature but I need to know your answer.

Sapphire: *sigh* What's your question?

Oobleck: Why is it you want to become a huntsman? You could've had a normal life and gone to a normal school, but you decide to go to a combat school. Why?

Sapphire: Normal life? Funny. With all due respect Doctor Oobleck, I don't think I've gotten that choice to have a normal life.

Oobleck: And why do you say that?

Sapphire: Because my parents were killed while me and my sister Jade were very young, the two of us were separated into different orphanages for so long that I thought she was dead. I decided to go to a combat school to find my sister. I want to become a huntsman to avenge my parents by finding and killing the people that ordered the death of my parents, saving anyone in need along the way.

Oobleck: Mm, I see. Well I wish you luck on that.

And with that he zipped right over to Ruby, probably to ask her and the rest of her team the same question he'd asked me and most likely the rest of us. Why does he care so much about why we want to become huntsman and huntresses? I will never understand that man.

P.O.V. Ruby

Oobleck: So, Ruby.

Ruby: Ah! Professor Oobleck where did you come from?!

Oobleck: Doctor. And I just came over from asking your friends something that I find to be an important question. The same question I've already asked your teammates as well.

I sliced one Beowulf in half and shot the last two dead leaving no remaining hostiles in the area. I guess I got the last of them seeing as everyone else was grouped together looking for a place to set up camp.

Ruby: And what question would that be?

Oobleck: Ruby, why do you want to become a huntress? I'm sure there are plenty of other things a sweet innocent girl like you could be doing with her life instead of fighting monsters.

Ruby: You know you may have a point there Mr. Oobleck. But the thing is, I've always looked up to my mom and dad. And when my mother died and I saw that Yang was trying to become a huntress, I kinda just wanted to do it to. Follow in my mom's footsteps I guess. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I just want to help people, like my mother did before me.

Oobleck: I see. Well I'm sure she'd be proud to see what a strong young woman you've become.

And just like that Oobleck just rushed away to the others to congratulate them I guess. I just looked confused as I put away my Crescent Rose and walked over to join them. Why was Doctor Oobleck so interested in why we wanted to become huntsman and huntresses?

Oobleck: Great job everyone you did a fine job today. Now team JJAS I will be taking your leader with me to go secure the perimeter. The rest of you seven may go set up camp.

And just like that Ruby picked up Zwei and they all just headed off to find a place to sleep for the night
