So it turns out that there is land under sky city? Wow, I never would have guessed that one. Let's just hope they survive the drop. What am I saying? Of course they will! Otherwise they'll be no story!😂😊

Chapter 3
(Aiden POV)

It was a close call. We almost didn't reach the water, but somehow we did. (A/N: told you so.)

I hit the water with such a hard splash it caused me to wince. Hey, at least we were alive.

I reached the surface of the water and gulped in air. I looked for Jesse, but she was already swimming for the shore. I followed her out, and we both stood on dry land, shivering in the chilling breeze.

" I can't believe it." Jesse said, standing next to me. I practically jumped, I didn't know she was standing that close.

"Believe what?"
"That there's land down here. That now the people of Sky City don't have to ration out their supplies anymore. That they can escape from the monsters.

I was glad to hear she wasn't blaming me for that last point.
At the talk of monsters, some started to fall from the sky.

"Well..." I was finding it hard to think. I was distracted by something, but I didn't know what. I told myself it was just the cold. "If we don't want to become monster chow, we should build a shelter.

She raised her dark eyebrows in amusement. I liked it when she did that.

"Really? Out of all the comments that brain of yours could have come up with, you thought of 'monster chow?'"

"Well yeah," I shrugged. "it's pretty catchy." Jesse started to laugh, and I joined in. It felt good to laugh like that. I can't remember the last time I ever laughed that much with my friends.

"Well," I started to dig up some dirt. "Lets get building."

-----------------------------------
One quick building session, later, we had a dirt hut. Just in time too, as the sun was starting to set, and the monsters that had survived the fall were starting to eye us hungrily.

"Come on," I grinned at Jesse. "Last one there is monster chow."

---------------------------
(Jesse POV)

I beat him, just. But as I burst through the door, I realised that there was a fire in front of me. And I was falling straight for it.

But Aiden saved me. Grabbing my hand. He stopped me right before I want face first into the flames.
"Thanks," I told him once I was safely sat down away from the fire.

"Well," Aiden sat down next to me and smirked. "I'm sure not even monsters would want to eat burnt Jesse chow."
"Oh yeah?" I pushed him playfully on the shoulder and smirked back. "Well Aiden chow doesn't sound very appetising either."

----------------------------------

(Aiden POV)

If someone had told me that I would be spending my time getting along with Jesse, I probably would have laughed. And punched them. And told them not to lie.
And yet here I was, chatting with her and getting to know her. It's a strange world, huh?

She told me where she used to live before she started traveling through the portals (cubetopia), her favourite colour (green), about her life when she was younger, and what pets she wanted (pigs). Then she noticed that I hadn't told anything about me.

"Well, go on. What about you?"
"There isn't really anything to say..."
"Course there is. Everyone always has something that makes them them." There was a silence that I found too awkward to leave, so I decided to talk.

"Since when were you so smart, Jesse?"

She rolled her eyes at me.
"Since always. Duh."

We laughed at that comment, but then the silence came back.

"Seriously though. What is your favourite colour?" She asked again.

I turned to look at her, and she turned too. We were sitting close, our shoulders touching. Her breath was lightly tickling my face.
"Well?" Her voice was quiet.

"...Green," I eventually spoke, my voice quiet too. "Like your eyes..."

A moan form outside made us spring apart. I glanced at Jesse and she was slightly pink.
Another moan made me get up.
"Zombies?" Jesse was up and standing next to me again, and her presence was strangely reassuring.

"I dunno," I told her. "You stay here, I'll go check it out."
"No way, I'm coming too." She argued back to me and stood in front of the door with her arms folded, blocking the way. "If you go, I go."

I did a fake eye roll.
"Ugh, fiinnee."

She laughed at that, which made me smile, then she turned round and opened the door. The smile dropped from her face and she let out a loud gasp. I looked over her head to see what she was looking at, and what I saw made me gasp too.

For lying there, in the rain, was a boy. A boy with blonde hair, a grey and orange outfit, and grey goggles, getting eyed by zombies hungrily. A boy we both knew all too well.

Lukas.

-----------------------------------
(Jesse POV)

"Lukas!? My god, what happened!?" I ran to Lukas and knelt down next to him. Feeling his neck with my fingers, I felt for his pulse.
'Be alive... Please be alive..."

Relief washed over me as I felt the faint flutter of his heartbeat. He was alive! Unconscious, but alive.
I turned to Aiden. He was already there next to me, with a look of worry on his face.

He went to pick up Lukas' legs.
"Come on, help me get him inside, away from these monsters."

I picked up Lukas' arms straightaway and together we hauled him inside, laying him down next to the fire. While I checked him for a fever, Aiden produced a cloth from his pocket. I had a bucket of water, so I dipped the cloth in and placed it on Lukas' forehead to keep him cool.

I kept this up, replacing the cloth with fresh water while Aiden refilled the bucket. After a while we would swap. Our silent teamwork continued until suddenly, after Aiden had just left again, I felt a hand on mine.

"J...Jesse?"
I looked down to see Lukas, with his eyes open!
"Thank God!" I threw my arms around his neck, sobbing my eyes out. "I didn't know when, or even if you were going to wake up!"

Hey..." Lukas hugged me back. "Hey, look, I'm ok."
He drew back, and looked at me with a worried expression.
"But... If your here..." He grabbed at my arm and I could see the fear in his face. "Did you fall too?" "Yeah."

He pulled on my arm, down into a hug. "Lukas?" I looked up at him, a hint of nervousness in my voice.
He looked at me intently.
"I'm just glad your ok, Jesse."

I let out a half laugh at that.
"Lukas, you were the one who was unconscious. I'm glad that you're ok."

"It's just..." His arms were still around me tightly, and they showed no sign of moving away. "When I imagine you falling, with no one to help you... It makes my heart jump."

Him saying that made my heart jump. But I should be worrying about him, not the other way around. I hugged him again, my head on his chest.
"Believe me," I whispered into his chest. "When I saw you on the ground, and you weren't moving... I panicked. The thought of a life without you... Well I don't even want to think about it."

When I didn't get a reply, I looked up to see that Lukas had fallen asleep, a happy look on his face. I smiled, knowing he had heard me, and lay my head on his chest again, falling asleep too.

Shhhh... there sleeping...
