Rain pounded the windows of the Crystal Temple as Steven sat on his old bed playing video games. Now that he was seventeen, he had moved into his gem room, but liked to come into the beach house every now and then to watch TV and hang out. The music from the TV was suddenly overpowered by a burst of thunder and lightning, making Steven jump. As he tried to keep his score, he heard some frantic knocking at the door. When he opened it, he was shocked to see Peridot, drenched in rainwater and shivering, standing in front of him.
"Well don't just stand there blocking me, clod! Let me in already!" Startled, Steven stepped aside to let the poor gem in. Peridot's blonde hair covered her face, but he could see she had a slightly worried expression. Steven went into the bathroom and grabbed her a towel as she sat down on the end of his couch. He tried to wrap her up in it, but she grabbed it and dried herself off, annoyed.
"So... what brings you back here?" Steven asked. Peridot sighed. "There seems to be a complication in my plans to go back to Homeworld... relating to you." Confused, Steven looked at her. "Me? What?" She stood up and stared at him, apparently shocked by what he didn't realize. "What?! Just look at me! Look at what happened to me because of you!" He looked her over quickly. "You... look really tired...?" Peridot growled and rolled her eyes. "You seriously don't know?! Look!" She gestured to her slightly rounded stomach. "I'm carrying, for Quartz sake!"
"Carrying...?" Steven tilted his head to the side. "Geodes! Gemlings! You know, how gems used to reproduce!" He stared at her, confused. "Didn't those Crystal Clods teach you anything?!" She groaned. "All right. When two gems in an extremely close relationship touch their gems together while they're glowing, one gem will become a "carrier". The other is the "sire". The carrier ends up having to take care of a bunch of geodes with the sire. You have to be the sire, since you're the only gem... I've ever loved." She sat back down and buried her face in her hands.
"Hey... don't worry, I'll be here for you. I'm sorry about this but you're gonna have to stay with me. I'm the only one who can take care of you." Steven wrapped his arms around her and buried his face in her hair. "It's gonna be ok..."
[Edit: Apologies for not explaining fully, but for those who don't know, geodes are basically gen eggs.]
