• Each regional mafia is made up of various families or gangs. The number may range from a few over a 100 depending upon the region. They have different business dealings and tend to stay out of each other's way.
• Sometimes their business enterprises intermingle with each other to a very large extent, depending upon their proximity to each other and the nature of the business.
• The mafia has a very effective structure, that prevents the higher ranked members of the Families to be responsible for the criminal enterprises. Besides any lower-ranked mafiosos could easily be bailed out of jail by cleaning their records and bribing the judges. Cops are also generally of the mafia'a pay roll and "look the other way", whenever they are involved.
