A/N: sooooo just so ya know, one or two of the flashbacks in this chapter are ones that were never actually mentioned or written about before (or were maybe written from another person's point of view). they have all been editted a little too, but all of the dialogue is still the same as in the first book. so yea haha thanks x
Megan Watson's POV
"A- and I just wanted to let you know," Niall stopped again, sobbing for several moments before he was able to continue, "I - I love you so much. And I'm sorry for e-everything. I'm s-sorry for treating you so badly all -" he let out a sob, "all the time. You're m-my everything and I didn't -" he sobbed even harder, "I never told you enough, and I w-wasn't the man I should've been f-for you." His breathing was uneven, and his voice was weak as he said, "So i-it's okay, I understand why you don't love me." There was a small pause, before he finished, "But I love you, Meg. And I don't think I'll ever stop." And then the voicemail was over.
Loud sobs left my mouth, my body shaking as I cried. I was crying so hard that I actually found myself wishing it was possible to cry harder, even though it wasn't, because I felt like I wasn't crying hard enough to match how I felt inside.
Niall had called me several times over the past few days since we had broken up, but I had just ignored all of the calls. I did, however, listen to the aforementioned voicemail he had left me, which consisted of him crying and telling me how much he loved me.
"To repeat this voicemail, please press 1." The automated British accent that came from my phone once the voicemail was finished was barely audible over the sound of me crying.
"Meg," Lottie ran a hand through her hair and sighed from where she sat on a beanie bag beside my bed. She had been spending the last few days with me to make me feel better.
I hadn't seen Harry since what happened, but his friends told me how he was doing. My hip was still quite sore, but I didn't even care; I was too upset over Niall. I was staying in my family's house, and Lottie had went to the house Niall and I shared - or, used to share - to collect some of my basic items. I knew soon enough I'd have to go over to the house and get everything I owed, but I had no intentions of doing that for a while, because I didn't want to see Niall. It'd only make me more upset than I already was. I felt so weird since we had broken up - which I assumed was because of how upset and heartbroken I was. I felt very exhausted and just plain weird.
Lottie stood up, and I took notice of the clear bags under her eyes, and at how completely wrecked she looked. I could only imagine how I looked right now, but I didn't really care.
"Listening -" she let out another sigh as I continued sobbing, and sat beside me. "Listening to voicemails," she took my phone away from where it was beside me, "is just making it worse. You're making yourself sick," she put an arm around me and let me cry into her shoulder.
"Remember yesterday?" she asked after a few moments of just letting me cry. "Meg, remember? You actually make yourself throw up from all of that crying," she reminded me, and then moved away a little and made me look at her. "Stop, Meg. You brought this onto yourself."
"I - I didn't bring this u-upon myself!" I said in defense, my breathing uneven and coming out at random times as I cried.
"You broke up with him, Megan!" She suddenly exclaimed, clear frustration in her tone. She then shook her head and sighed. "I really don't get you, at all."
I cried softly and grabbed my phone out of her hands.
"Megan, no," Lottie said in a warning tone, "give it back."
