Chapter 8 The truth

I couldn't stop thinking about the other night, how Joey and I had kissed.. I couldn't see us anymore than friends, I guess I just didn't feel the same way for him as he felt for me.

It was breakfast and we sat at the table, today was going to be a long day, I had to go and talk to Charles about what we were going to do.

"Are you alright?" Grandma asked and I looked up at her and nodded

"Just thinking." I replied, the month was almost over and I was running out of time, my mom hadn't called to give us any info on what was happening and how much longer she would be at this divorce thingy.

"Your mother is going to be calling you soon." Grandma said and I looked up at her and smiled, Misty looked up and then back down at her food, she didn't really want to leave this place, because of her crush on Jason, she wouldn't see him for a few days and she wanted to be with him.

"When?" I asked and Grandma looked at me and then thought for a second

"I think tonight." She said, Misty finished her breakfast and got up from the table, I wasn't quite done mine but I wanted to get out of the house and find out from Charles what was going to be happening.

"We are leaving." Misty shouted out and Grandma looked at us and nodded, she kept on eating her breakfast, I and Misty ran up stairs to go and get our stuff, I grabbed my bag and shoes then headed down stairs.

"Bye!" I shouted

"Bye!" Misty shouted out and we heard grandma shouted a bye back to us, we walked out of the house once I put my shoes on and went our separate directions, I went to the forest and Misty was probably going to Kendra's to see Jason.

I ran to the forest, my mind still on Joey and crossing my fingers, I didn't want him to be at the forest.. I just wanted to do this on my own and not have him ask me a whole bunch of questions, when I came to the Forest I saw Joey but with him was Kendra! I ran up and smiled, I was happy to see Kendra.

"I'm sorry.. I believe you now, Ally." She said and smiled back, we all started walking into the forest, Kendra had her bag and Joey had his, it wasn't to scary now and we knew that Charles would be expecting us.

We walked farther until we came to the house.. the door was wide open and we saw him walking out, he had handfuls of things in his arms, where was Charles going? We ran up to him and accidentally startled him.

"What are you kids doing here?" Charles asked as we all got on the ground and helped him pick all of his possessions.

"To figure everything out, where are you going?" I asked as we put stuff in our arms and helped him carry all of his things.

"I need to get out of here, the police found me." He said looking around, his door was still wide open and there was a tiny boat in the river, we walked to the boat and put his stuff in it.

"But you can't go.. we have to tell them it wasn't you and her brother." I said and Charles looked at me with a weak smile.

"You did all you could.. besides, they would never believe me." He said and we walked back to his house and grabbed more stuff.

"But.. we have a letter and know it was him!" I said and Charles picked up the letter and put it in my hand.

"It might work but, it won't be enough, we would need more evidence.. like pictures or something." He said and I thought about it, we didn't have any pictures of her brother.

"Yeah.. but we still have the letter and he wrote it by hand so it just might work, Charles." I said and Charles put his stuff down.

"If we try and tell them that her brother did it then will you just leave me alone?" He asked and I nodded.

"Ok, we will try ok and if they don't believe me.. I'm getting out of here." He said and I nodded, I gave him the letter back and just as he grabbed it we heard police siren's.

"Oh, no! Come on, we have to get out of here." Charles said and closed the door to the house, we ran to the window and he opened it and looked out.

"We should be able to climb out of this window and escape without them seeing us." He said and we nodded, I was kinda scared that the cops were here but I knew that we could get out of here.

Charles helped me to get out of the window and then Kendra and Joey, he then climbed out and we slowly walked to the side of the house, just as we did we heard the door open and two police men shouting, now it was time to run.

"Ok, let's go." Charles said and we ran for the town, the police were probably still searching the house so we would be able to run out of the Forest without them seeing us.

My chest hurt and my shoes were getting muddy, Joey and Kendra were right behind me and I followed Charles, I then looked back and saw the house door still wide open, the police were still trying to look for us.

"Hurry." Charles said and we made it to the entrance to the forest in time, we stopped to breath and then I looked around and thought for a moment.

"Ok, now all we have to do is get on the bus and make our way to the city." I said and looked around, I knew where the bus stops were, but I wanted to get on the bus without my sister or grandma knowing.

"Over here." I said as a bus pulled up to a bus stop and I knew that grandma or Misty wouldn't see us if we got on this bus.

We walked to the bus stop and all got on, there wern't too many people on the bus.. there were a few but not a lot like there usually is.

We sat down in one of the seats and looked out the window, I looked at the bus diver, he seemed to be keeping an eye on us, he then turned to the front again and started driving, I turned my head back to the window and felt Joeys finger tap my shoulder.

"Yes?" I asked turning to him and he blushed

"About that other night.. so?" He asked and knew what he was thinking

"Joey... I'm sorry but, I only see us as friends.. nothing more." I said and he looked at his feet, I felt bad for turning him down like that.

"It's ok.. I like being your friend." He said looking up and smiling and I smiled back at him, it was pretty brave for what he just said.

"We are almost there." Charles said and we looked out the window, we were in the city now, it looked so.. pretty!

The bus stopped and we got off the bus, and started for the city to talk to them.
