The Training Centre has 12 floors. A floor for each district. You just have to step into the elevator and press your district number, and you'll be transported to your district floor.
This fancy elevator is made of crystal clear glass and you can look at everything at once as you shoot up. It's so fun I feel like riding several times more.
The elevator is huge, and it manages to let all the tributes plus their mentors to fit inside altogether. That's how big it is. The fact that the ground beneath us is see-through made some of the tributes look green. Finally we reach the 12th floor and it is only me, Gale and Haymitch in the elevator.
The doors open and Haymitch walks out, I'm going to follow him but Gale grabs my hand and forces me back into the elevator.
Gale is clenching his jaw and his eyes are hard and stormy. "What were you doing with the District 8 guy?"
So straightforward.
"Talking, duh." I answer in way that I'm sure will irritate him.
Gale releases am angry breath and glares at me. "Why were you talking to him then?"
Most girls would probably die to be in my position, having Gale to be jealous over her. But I'm no other girls.
I roll my eyes. "It's none of your business, Gale. I can talk to whoever I want and it doesn't concern you."
"Katniss, I don't want you to talk to him," Gales says, crossing his arms in front of his chest.
"Oh are you jealous?" I say with thick sarcasm. Gale clenches his jaw even tighter. I sneer at him. "You shouldn't be though, I'm not your property, and you can't control who I talk with. You're only my cousin, Gale. Everybody thinks we are cousins, and cousins can't have romance. It's against the law."
Gale rolls his eyes.
"Look Gale, I can't be with you."
"You can, it's just that you don't want to."
"Gale," I sigh in defeat. "I don't love you, we can only be friends, and I hope you respect my boundaries. I feel more comfortable if there are no romance between us, just the satisfaction of hunting and keeping our family alive and most importantly, our friendship."
"But I don't want to just be friends," Gale protests weakly.
"Gale, please," I plead. When he doesn't say anything back, I press the open button and the doors slide open. "Lets just be friends, Gale,"
Then I walk out of the elevator without sparing a glance back at him.
But deep down, I know I love him back.
I open the door to my quarters and stand in front of it in shock. This room is so much bigger than my house back in District 12. Plush king-sized bed, wardrobe that is nearly two-storey high, bathroom that cleans you up without needing you to move a single finger, and the Capitol view. Gosh the Capitol view.
